There are plenty of nitpicks that can be made about Mega Man Legacy Collection, but at its core, the title is a compilation of some of the best games of the 8-bit era.

Mega Man Legacy Collection is a great package with a lot of content and stuff to do - for newcomers it's worth acknowledging that each game is very challenging, and could be too much for someone who isn't used to the steep learning curve.

Mega Man has never been known as a walk in the park when it came to difficulty and this port tries its best to stay true to the original feel. Fans new and old should most certainly check out this collection. I highly recommend it.

It showcases how seemingly minor tweaks to a series can have significant effects on its kinetic potential.

Mega Man for new and old gamers, with a slice of uninspired bonus content on the side.

Mega Man Legacy Collection on the 3DS is a great collection of games and extras, but players who already have the Virtual Console games might be hard pressed to spend $30 on 54 challenges that have little replayability without any online functionality and leaderboards. It also doesn’t help that they left out the widescreen option from the console/PC versions. If you can get past that, you’ll find a lot of classic NES enjoyment within this collection.

The Mega Man titles for both the NES and the Game Boy have already been featured on the Nintendo eShop, so if you already own any of those I can’t recommend the Legacy Collection. If you don’t own any of the Mega Man titles on your 3DS and really want to take down some robot masters (I’m coming for you Dust Man) on the go, then the Legacy collection is a good buy.

Let me explain why I think this particular collection deserves a ten. Having played many different ports/roms/compilations of the Mega ManLet me explain why I think this particular collection deserves a ten. Having played many different ports/roms/compilations of the Mega Man series, this version wins out for a number of reasons.

    1. The roms used are near perfect, if not perfect copies of the originals. Many people remember the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. Even though those had Mega Man 7 and 8 available (which this version does not) , the collections were plagued with a variety of issues (including lack of controller mapping and overall inaccuracies), which this version remedies.

    2. The extras. Oh man the extras. This version (along with the other versions) has a museum mode, which documents concept art, music, and box designs from all the different versions. There is also the option to switch between which version of the games you play: you can pick either the American Mega Man or the Japanese Rockman roms. That, coupled with the extra challenges that you get only with this version (provided you have the Mega Man Amiibo/paywall) gives this version a slight lead over the others. It is also important to mention that the 3DS versions also get two backgrounds for free with codes provided in the box as well.

    3. Portability. This is the only collection that is currently portable. Of course, there are alternatives (like the PSN versions of the Rockman games on PSP, or the 3DS E-shop versions) but this collection has them all, with extras, for thirty bucks.

Considering how many versions of these games I have played, I was skeptical that this collection would be as good as it is. I was wrong. This is the best collection to date. The roms look better than the E-shop versions, and considering the price tag, you would be hard pressed to buy a better version. Do yourself a favor and pick this up immediately.

The sprite lag I can deal with, if it had an option to turn off but it doesn't You're stuck running in NES mode even though the hardware is more than capable than running games without limitations. Oh, and you can't play the games in 3D which kind of sucks. If you're a mega man fan like myself, you'll probably appreciate it. If not, give it a pass. Expand

After playing Mighty No. 9 (one of my favorite games, buy it instead of this garbage), I decided to try the games that inspired it. But I was VERY dissapointed1! for one thing, these games are way too hard! In Mighty Number 9, the game would TELL ME which bosses were weak too what. But in this game, it forces you to figure it out on your own! I expect to be told everything I need to know before starting a game, having to deal with this trail and error is no fun at all! Also, NO TUTORIALS! NONE! The game never tells you how to play. I mean, admittedly, it was able to figure it out on my own. But that was probably only because I had played Mighty No. Nine before. The story is also lame. Why? BECAUSE THERE ISN"T ONE! No background at all! Seriously, just buy mighty number 9 instead of this trash. -0/9 Expand
