Rocksteady's phenomenal Arkham series needs no introduction at this stage — three of the finest superhero games you'll ever play with a top-notch cast and writing, and sublime gameplay that put you right into the bat-boots of the Dark Knight. Asylum is an all-timer, City still stands up as one of the best open-world games we've ever played and Knight, although slightly less successful, is still a strong final chapter. It's a shame that Knight is completely unplayable on Switch. Very little TLC has been shown to any of these games and better decisions weren't made when it became clear just how poorly one of the games here ran on Nintendo's console. If you only have a Switch and have never played the first two games, Batman: Arkham Trilogy is still a decent way to play those two titles, at least.
Though Arkham Trilogy on the Switch serves as an excellent excuse to dive back into Asylum and City, its Arkham Knight port is nothing short of diabolical.
Asylum and City play perfectly and both deserve a 10 right there. And honestly, the technical failures of Knight aren't that bad when you consider its on the Switch. If you have another way of playing Knight, maybe play it there, but if this is your only way of playing the game then I recommend it. The textures were muddy, the batmobile studders the frame rate, and even crashed the game twice - but I'm still loving playing it and have completed 95% of the game. Knight is such a good game that the technical drawbacks only knock it down to an 8 my book. Even with all its minor flaws I still give this trilogy on switch an overall 10.
If not for the mishandling of Arkham Knight, I would be much more inclined to recommend Arkham Trilogy. Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight are three of the best action games to have been made in the last 20 years. Their mix of atmospheric settings, talented voice performances, and kinetic, thoughtful combat combine for some of the most memorable software Rocksteady has ever produced. Sadly, with an entire third of this compilation in such a shoddy state, I have no other choice but to mark Arkham Trilogy as a mild recommend. For many, the state of Arkham Knight might prove to be an insurmountable deal breaker. If you can look past it, or struggle through the game in its rough state, there’s still a lot to love in Arkham Trilogy.
The negative reaction is way overblown. Arkham Asylum and City run flawlessly. I just nearly 100% both Ayslum and City. They didn't feel compromised at all. It's the full experience with immersive visuals. I have it on PS4, and unless you're comparing them side-by-side, you can barely tell the difference... and honestly, once you're zoned into the game, it doesn't matter. As of March 17 2024, Knight is running fairly well. The graphics are blurry, but playable. I'm 23% into the campaign and I haven't run into any game breaking things. The blurry visuals make it harder to make things out, so you can't be a graceful with your batman beat-down. The Batmobile segments a little choppy, but absolutely playable since the last patch. Wait for a $35 USD sale. It's absolutely worth it.
I got the game as a Christmas present it was nice to experience all three for second time on a new platform which I can take everywhere with me but unfortunately it was not what I was expecting the Arkham Asylum is running ok and it’s not the reworked version from ps4 and Xbox one but I don’t mind that what was bothering me was the FPS drops and texture loadings so I moved to Arkham city which was the best of the three and worked as expected so I tried the Arkham knight after that and that was the moment I got annoyed by why I asked for this game it was so blurry and unplayable that I started having headaches after playing it for 30min fps of the game was nowhere close to 30fps and game just kept bugging and teleporting my character while gliding around the city I hope they fix that I love the idea of playing Arkham Knight on the go
Arkham knight is extremely broken on switch
Arkham city and Asylum have slight performance problems and are limited to 30fps on switch which is also inexcusable since they are games from 2009 and 2011 and should work correctly
As of a week after release, the game is practically unplayable. The game has slowdown, but the cutscenes stutter until they go frame by frame by frame until finally, after a couple minutes, just end and you can continue. That is for Arkham Asylum, which is the oldest and least stressful to this ancient system. The shame is that the series, even old, is epic and still holds up today on PlayStation and Xbox, but not on this archaic machine that was underpowered the day it came out.
