Hands down, Door Kickers: Action Squad is one of the best games to come to the Switch this year. Every inch is well-designed and smartly tuned, it stays challenging (but fair!) and fresh from start to finish, and there’s enough meat on its bones to satisfy anyone. It even does co-op, to boot. Simply put, it is the total package and a must-buy for any Switch owner craving 2D action.
Experiment with the different player characters and get on board with the surprising tactical depth, you'll find there's a lot more to it than meets the night vision body-cam.
Door Kickers: Action Squad is an entirely serviceable 2D shooter that has a lot to offer for those looking for that type of gameplay loop, but it’s not really an experience to remember. I can see fans of the genre enjoying a couple of levels at a time, playing in bite-sized chunks. However, even though the gameplay is decent, Door Kickers: Action Squad is lacking overall a lot of what makes a smaller game stand out. Without a story or interesting hook to keep you around, Door Kickers: Action Squad is a title you’re probably going to like instead of love.
First played it on the PC (Xbox Controllers) and now to have it on Switch, its just a natural fit. Moreso when one of your kids pops in and demands to be your sidekick. Just pop the joycons, reassign controllers and there you go. There is an option to disable blood, but its so cartoonish I don't think its much problem for kids, anyway.
Wish they would make it 4 player coop, like our favorite "Lovers in a dangerous Spacetime".
