  1. Luckily, the lame story is the one glaring flaw in an otherwise stupendous role-playing game.
  2. The scope for customisation, combined with the excellent battle system, a beautifully drawn game world, and an engrossing (if somewhat cliche) story means that Grandia 2 easily rivals the likes of "FF."
  3. 100
The best RPG's, though, tell a compelling story, provide plenty of exploration, and let you mix it up with fun, addictive battles. On those counts, Grandia II is a rousing success.
  4. 100
There are no branching pathways or mulitiple endings, but if you're looking for a rip-roaring adventure, you can't go wrong.
  5. 96
If you love RPGs and are looking for a compelling story with well-written characters, good graphics and a strong soundtrack, Grandia II is about as good as it gets!
  6. With awesome graphics, dead-on voice acting, an ingenious battle system, and a strong story plot, you would be crazy to pass this game up.
  7. 92
Combined with a fantastic battle system, great customization features, and wonderful visuals, Grandia II may have the same story all the RPG-world around, but it tells it with brilliant gameplay design and excellent style
  8. High-quality graphics along with a new action doused combat system that's bound together with a solid story make for one hell of a game.
  9. The great combat system and engaging story truly make the game a gem, not only on the Dreamcast but in the RPG genre as a whole.
  10. What you have here is simply the greatest RPG that has ever been created. And while I put "Skies of Arcadia" right up with it, it's still a big number 2.
  11. Grandia II not only provides one of the best combat systems ever seen in an RPG, it also serves up a thought-provoking story (once you get past a rather arid first half), eye-poppingly beautiful graphics, and some truly likable characters.
  12. The ultimate remake of what has been done before but with the benefit of technology making everything look prettier, cleaner and fancier, not to mention a minor tweak or two to things that were so good the first time around they weren't worth messing around with.

One of the most unique RPG's I've ever had the pleasure of playing, Grandia II, along with Skies of Arcadia, were really the RPG flagships for the Dreamcast, a system not really known for RPG's. Both games were excellent, with both getting re-releases down the road on other systems when the Dreamcast went belly up. Grandia II was always my favorite as it had a very mature storyline and really started the whole semi-free flowing battle system seen in alot of games today. There was so much to love about this game for an aspiring RPG fanatic that I had to play it multiple times. And the battle with Melphis is still, to this day, one of the hardest bosses I've ever had to fight. If you can find a copy of this game for either the Dreamcast or PS2, go ahead and get it and give it a play through. You certainly won't regret it. Full Review »
