  1. The real question is whether it's more fun than NBA Showtime or previous versions of NBA Jam, and the answer there would probably be no.
  2. 74
An easy choice for party games. As for a single player game, though it contains cool mini-games and nice customization features, the lack of depth in the gameplay and that annoying AI make NBA Hoopz a game that you grab only when you have company over.
  3. The addictive and fun head-to-head gameplay takes some time to wear out its welcome, and the new options included in the game will pacify NBA Jam veterans enough to warrant a rental.
  4. After playing a four player game in NBA Hoopz, we ended up going right back to "NBA Showtime" because it is overall, just a better game.
  5. The various modes of play and excellent multiplayer aspects do a good job of keeping things fresh, but sooner or later, you'll find it tough not to look at NBA Hoopz as tired and cheap, and that dreaded "been there, done that" feeling will rear it's ugly head.
  6. Breathes fresh new life into a basketball game genre that has been very repetitive, in terms of games.
  7. There are a few new mini-games thrown in, and the crazy cheat codes are back, but they're a fleeting distraction at best. This game is worth nothing to people who have played one of these before.
  8. NBA Hoopz smacks you in the face and dares you not to have a blast playing it with some friends.
  9. 60
NBA Hoopz comes off as a simulation wannabe, simultaneously betraying "Showtime" fans and only weakly attracting serious hoop addicts. Stick with "NBA 2K1."
  10. If you want a glimpse of what the NBA might look like if Vince McMahon were the commissioner, then you owe yourself a look at NBA Hoopz.
