  • Summary: Awakened Shadow is designed to take full advantage of the Nintendo DS capabilities allowing players to engage in impressive boss battles with up to two friends and earn and trade items via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in multiplayer mode. Players will be able to attack enemies faster than ever before with upgraded weapons and powerful Shadows, which can be switched for tactical advantages. Players will roam a 3D open world environment across several unique “cube” worlds as they take on formidable Otherworld bosses, complete multiple challenges, and recruit over a dozen characters in their own custom adventure. Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow is unfortunately another mediocre game for a franchise that doesn'’t seem to be able to live up to its expectations. The lack of a decent AI, the forgettable narrative, and the confusing gameplay, will result in a poor overall experience for both fans and newcomers to the series.
  2. By adding players, Awakened Shadow's solo campaign has suffered. [Oct 2010, p.88]

Overall Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow is a good title which is right in every of its aspects, although without surprising us in any of then. Everything works well, but the game doesn't achieve to engage us like other ones.

Four heads might not necessarily be better than three, but it's yet another of a great many reasons why Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow compares poorly to the peers it so desperately tries to ape.
