  1. It's very fun thanks to its simplicity, it's graphically clean and simple, and there’s plenty of puzzles to keep you busy.

It very effectively translates the engrossing and challenging nature of crosswords to the handheld format.
  3. Strategic word puzzling personified, with tons of activities to complete. What it lacks in frills, it more than makes up in substance, which is something that can't normally be said for a $20 piece of software. It's good stuff.
  4. I really enjoyed every facet of the title and only had minor complaints.
  5. Crosswords DS is a fun game for those who enjoy word games.
  6. Nintendo had its market clearly defined with this offering, and while it’s an extremely barebones game, it does everything it sets out to do very well.

An option for an on-screen keyboard would have been welcome. [Feb 2010, p.83]
  8. If crosswords and wordsearches are what you want – Crosswords and wordsearches are what you will get.

CrossworDS is a surprisingly solid game and a fantastic addition to the touch generations series.
  10. Nintendo succeeded in their mission, which was to bring a word puzzle game to the DS that everyone can enjoy. I can definitely see this game as a useful mechanism for individuals who wish to improve their vocabulary or word understanding. However, that improvement can go so far.

If you just want an interesting and slightly challenging way to pass the time then this is a bit too difficult so knock the score down a notch, but if you're a crossword pro then add a point or two - oh, and that six letter word was 'plague' just in case you're reaching for the dictionary.

Nintendo Presents Crossword Collection is a fine product that will appeal to puzzle fans all over, throwing enough crosswords, wordsearches and anagrams at players to keep even the brainiest of DS owner occupied for quite some time. Sadly there are a few elements missing that prevent this from becoming a must-buy title.
  13. With thousands of puzzles, a range of difficulty levels and intuitive controls, Crossword Collection is a good choice for anyone wanting a budget range of wordy puzzles to last. It's not without its problems, but it's a good way to while away a quiet evening and doesn't try to throw any pseudo-educational elements on you.

Crosswords is simply a game about word puzzles made for people who love word puzzles -- and that's OK with me.
  15. This game is versatile, and has tons of activities — it’s probably price-competitive with those huge jumbo books of crosswords you can buy down at the Newsagent. But it doesn’t have the same soul, and it denies you such simple pleasures as ignoring the rules completely and entering rude words in all the boxes.
  16. Nintendo Gamer
A disappointing case of quantity over quality. [Feb 2010, p.68]
  17. Solving crossword puzzles work just as fine on the DS as it does on the kitchen table. It's a shame that the developers haven't utilized the digital platform the game is on though, just throwing crossword after crossword at the player with no variation or extra material is potential lost. It works, but it doesn't bring anything new to the table.
  18. 30
Do yourself a favor and pick up New York Times Crosswords for the DS instead.
  19. 30
Any serious puzzler would be strongly advised to look elsewhere for their fix.

So the deal is, when you buy Crosswords DS, you're agreeing that you're buying a game basically with crosswords, and that's exactly what youSo the deal is, when you buy Crosswords DS, you're agreeing that you're buying a game basically with crosswords, and that's exactly what you get, plus more!

With your cartridge in hands, you plug it into your DS, turn it on, hold the game like a book, create your profile, set your orientation (if you're right or left-handed) and you're set! You can go into a training session or go right for the game, which isn't a bad idea, because the controls are pretty simple, it's fully operational by the touch screen, and you'll master it in no time.

There are three types of games here, crosswords, wordsearch and anagrams. Each one is timed to see how fast you can solve them.

For the crosswords you'll face four difficulty levels, and hundreds of different puzzles, you type the letter in the screen, the game recognizes it, if it's right it will appear in black, if not, it will appear in red, if it's wrong you'll have the chance to correct it, if it's right, then no, after all it's right anyway, but you can disable the correcting system in the further difficulties; if you encounter problems for solving a riddle you can call for a hint, each game you play gives you a certain amount of points, which you can exchange for hints, the number of points will differ based upon the game, harder games have you more points available; you have three types of hints, the ones that gives you an alternative tip, requires the least number of points, only one, and costs you the least amount of time, only a minute, the ones that will show you the letter you asked, which requires 3 points and costs you 3 minutes, and the ones that will tell you the whole word, requires 5 points and will cost you massive 5 minutes!

There's the wordsearch, which you'll have to find words among lots of letters scattered around the screen, each one based in some theme, like words related to astronomy, weather, animals, cities, sports, colors and many more, there's 3 difficulty levels, and the words can be found horizontally, vertically, diagonally, backwards, anything goes!

The last game is anagrams, and here you have to search for words using the letters given to you, various words can be found with several number of letters used.

It's a good game after all, nothing important except the game itself, like, basic graphics, basically no music, except for the menu, but if you're a fan of these kinds of games you can't go wrong, after all even the basic graphics are better than paper, or maybe if you're seeking for a good way to just pass some time and have some fun, this is it.
