What I don't like is the ugly non-Namco designed interface and screwy button configuration when plaing with the stylus, which makes it literally impossible to play with the manual transmission. [Jan 2005, p.85]
Despite the DS' lack of true analog control the system handles the game with as much grace as it can with D-pad or touch-screen control. And the real trip is its great handling of wireless multiplayer.
The problem I had is that you cannot calibrate your cars' steering wheel to your liking in order to get rid of its large dead spot. [Jan 2005, p.145]
Collision detection problems and sloppy mechanics plague this otherwise fun title, and multiplayer is really the best aspect of the game.
Looks and feels a little dated (despite it being "new"), and control and gameplay issues combined make for a sometimes frustrating game.
The whole thing screams ‘generic Ridge Racer game X’, with its borrowed tracks, borrowed handling and overall lack of depth.
It fails at presenting a compelling racing game, and more to the point, it fails at presenting a compelling Ridge Racer game, with backward graphics and bollixed controls.
