  • Summary: Set in the mythical world of Middle-earth, The Hobbit is an introductory tale to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. You control Bilbo Baggins as he travels from his peaceful Hobbit hole in Hobbiton into the dark and harrowing Mirkwood forest and finally to the Lonely Mountain, the home of Smaug the dragon. During your journey, you will acquire items, knowledge, and courage to face the most terrifying of enemies. Come face-to-face with elves, trolls, orcs, spiders, and wolves. It's up to you to lead the quest that started it all. Expand

  1. An entertaining day, and a day in which you'll learn the full story of The Hobbit. But still, just a day. It needed to be much longer, and much far more difficult. [Advance]
  2. The game is never very exciting. Moments of tension are few and far between, and the action never really heats up enough to draw the player into the world of Middle-earth. [Spring 2004, p.49]
  3. For children the Hobbit offers hours of fun with easy to learn controls and simple puzzles, as for adults the game can become slightly condescending with its simplicity.
  4. Reluctant hero Bilbo Baggins is slow to swing his walking stick, making battles more difficult than they should be, but the overall game play and control are very solid. [Dec 2003, p.150]

The Hobbit is one of the best games for the GBA. In my personal opinion it is very underrated. It controls well has good game play. The art direction is distinct. There are upgrades and collectibles and a variety of weapons/tools and environmental interaction. It follows the story really faithfully. If you have a GBA or DS get this game it is well worth it!
