  • Summary: Drome Racers mixes all-terrain racing with futuristic environments. In high-tech racing machines based on Lego toys, you'll race through a city, a mountain, and a canyon, while earning money for car upgrades. Each track features special pick-ups, including a shield to avoid challengers, speed boost to grab that checkered flag, and mines and hatchets to slow down your opponents. Dominate the competition in gameplay modes such as Arcade, Time Trial, and Career, or challenge a friend to a one-on-one multiplayer race. Expand

  1. A real racing rush. [May 2003, p.139]

The game's downside is that it doesn't control as well as it should. The off-road cars control reasonably enough, if not in an entirely realistic manner. On the other hand, the paved road cars don't handle as well as they should.
  3. Drome Racers does little to encourage the player to return.
  4. If you're drawn to this title because of the Lego name, just know that there are better futuristic racing experiences to be had.
  5. Lego is trying to change its image with the futuristic racing game, Drome Racers. It's like Barney doing a porn movie - but much less interesting.

Take a spin on a Lego game that doesn't exactly play with the conventional blocks. Drome Racers is a decent racer for the Gamecube that doesn't offer much substance, but is a bit of fun while it lasts. The game looks beautiful on the Gamecube and it runs smoothly. Tracks look decent and the Dromes can get to some decent speeds.

Worth a look if you like your Lego games without those pesky yellow block heads hamming it up.
