  1. Merely an okay game that benefits greatly from its movie license. [June 2003, p.106]
  2. All is not perfect in Enter the Matrix, but for its few flaws, the game delivers what it is meant to: a very convincing experience inside The Matrix that looks, smells, and feels like... The Matrix. [July 2003, p.76]
  3. Its game play suffers from repetition, but this two-disc technomelange has tons of great stuff for "Matrix" fans. [July 2003, p.142]
  4. The game is by no means a weak attempt to cash in on a franchise...Gamers not only get tons of extra movie action but also get to run, kick, and shoot in a fully realized Matrix universe.
  5. Seems to split its aim between hardcore "Matrix" fans and experienced gamers; if you find yourself with a foot in both camps, you may well find this one of the most faithful movie-to-game experiences in recent memory.
  6. The hacking mode is a very innovative feature.
  7. Wants to be so many different games that it doesn't excel at any one of them. [13 June 2003]
  8. 72
If only the whole game was able to capture the fun inherent in the fight sequences, it would be a true masterpiece.
  9. Enter the Matrix isn't a perfect slice of interactive entertainment, but it does provide at least a dozen hours of action-packed fun and serves as a clever vehicle to expand on the events in "The Matrix Reloaded."
  10. The most hardcore Matrix fan will probably eat this game up, but for action buffs, a rental will probably be the furthest trip down the rabbit hole those gamers will go.
  11. It has a good story, kick ass martial arts fights, good graphics, and the cinematics in between levels are really well done.
  12. The game could be better if the control were tighter and some of those driving missions were more fun, but for what it is Enter The Matrix is enjoyable for all the right reasons.
  13. Maybe if it actually looked better, if more of the levels weren't so sparse or uninspiring then we'd be able to forgive the shallow gameplay and the fact that combat is too straightforward.
  14. While Enter the Matrix ties in really well with the movie franchise, it isn’t much of a game.
  15. The game's story isn't strong enough to stand on its own, and the gameplay simply doesn't save it, making the game worth a look for hard-core fans of The Matrix films, but a buggy disappointment for just about anyone else.

Somewhere along the way, someone forgot to implement the core of any action game: comfortable controls.

This is the most unfinished retail game I've ever played.
  18. Has several shining moments, but overall it is plagued by poor level design and artificial challenges. The mediocre game is balanced out by the superb story, however. The acting is incredible.
  19. Neither a horrible nor excellent game, but it is most certainly disappointing in light of the time and money spent on its development. In regards to its claim to be an indispensable companion piece to "The Matrix: Reloaded," it's just as lackluster.
  20. In more than 20 years of playing games, I have never seen a console game as obviously unfinished and rushed to market as Enter the Matrix...This game is a complete mess, and that's the only complete thing about it. [Aug 2003, p.114]
  21. It's blatantly obvious that this game isn't quite finished... While it does have its moments and diehard Matrix fans will drool over the extra videos, this game receives the blue pill.
  22. 42
The game's one saving grace is the hand-to-hand fighting. It feels good to beat the crap out of people, straight up. [Aug 2003, p.27]
  23. The implementation here is nearly a complete waste, considering the richness of the universe involved. Lousy controls, sterile and anemic environments, and weaksauce driving environments all pull down the good work done in the sound, character graphics and new footage departments.
