Mullet Madjack is something between a clever parody and a loving tribute to the genres it was inspired by, full of both clever critique and engaging writing. Throw a fast-paced, exciting, and super-addictive gameplay loop on top of that, and you have my new favorite title.
Mullet Mad Jack is a hyper stylized shooter with a lot under the hood. The simple yet addicting gameplay loop is more than enough to keep players engaged for the long term.
Mullet MadJack is a crazy, frenetic mix of different genres and media: there's the 80s action hero, there's the art of classic anime, cyberpunk aesthetics, roguelike elements and, of course, FPS. In all this, there's still time for good humor and an incredible gameplay that brings it all together in an excellent game. It's challenging, thought-provoking and a great job by Hammer95.
Mullet Mad Jack is a blistering, balls-to-the-wall throwback to 90s anime and violent, dystopian sci-fi that marries boomer shooters with speedrunning and roguelike aspirations to form an absolutely intoxicating brew. It's short, and there's not much to keep you invested even with infinite floors to climb, but you'll be having a good fucking time while you're in it.
It took me about four hours to play through Mullet Mad Jack and after about half of my playing time, I felt pretty fed up with the monotonous environments and the corridors that everything takes place in.
Nailed the aesthetics and soundtrack, no doubt. The game kind of blows it's load in the first 10-20 minutes, though, as you've already seen basically everything the game has to offer. I became bored about halfway through the first level and uninstalled after I died on the second. I guess it's meant to appeal to the audience it's mocking.
Summary MULLET MADJACK is a single-player fast-paced FPS that brings you directly inside a CLASSIC ANIME. Power up your character and reach the last floor; Beat your best time or try again. Haste makes waste… OF YOUR ENEMIES!
