    A challenging game. Actually, I think it's almost too brutal even though you can practice up in quick play mode before plowing through the lengthy campaign. Casual gamers will feel bludgeoned after just an hour.

    It's a mixed bag, maybe, but if you were to roll the dice on Hills and Rivers Remain you'd likely come away with a win.

    Without a compelling story or multiplayer it's hard to find a reason worth sticking with the plain strategy gameplay of Hills and Rivers Remain.

    The story is unfortunately forgettable, and raises the question of why Square Enix did not tap into its sizable library of popular licences to provide something more of substance.
