Pixel People is a highly appealing freemium game that just about everyone should try.
Pixel People (Free, Universal) is the best simulation game in the App Store that takes advantage of every pixel it delivers.
As long as you don't mind the waiting game that inevitably accompanies these sorts of expansion-orientated titles, not to mention a rather steep learning curve to citizen creation, you've got one of the best examples of the genre to look forward to.
Even with the knowledge that Pixel People has no real meat to it and is about as "fun" as browsing someone's Facebook page I still have a hard time putting it down. Heck, the whole time I've been typing this I've been itching to get back to discovering new jobs. I can't quite explain why but this is definitely one time-waster worth checking out.
This pixelated city building title packs just enough humour and style to elevate it above free-to-play also-rans and into the territory of being genuinely addictive. [May 2013, p.89]
While it does what it does very well, Pixel People doesn't have the balance or challenge needed to break the shackles of the genre it inhabits.
Pixel People is an addictive proposition, one that many players will happily play - but few will be especially happy while doing so. Its pay-offs are irregular and require no skill, simply perseverance in clicking through the splicing options.
Summary With the help of your trusty assistant you welcome new clones to your city at the arrival centre, then it’s up to you to find them a job. Create residents by combining the skills of others, build them a place to put their new skills to use and watch your Utopia grow!
