The boost mechanic is what makes Rock Runners feel truly special. Performing a perfect run on a level, all while boosting, feels so smooth and rewarding that you just want to do it again on the next stage. Although there are some issues with in-game hitching (that, and the pause menu could use a count-down timer on resume), there is very little negative to say about Rock Runners.

Rock Runners is good, but not great with some nice action sequences that can be a bit dull with the basic one touch interaction.

Rock Runners is a rock-solid bite-sized platformer that may err on the side of being too 'casual', but much like any other snack you get a burst of enjoyment each time you chow down on a level and can't help but plow in to the next one immediately.

Rock Runners takes several levels to really get challenging, but once it hits its stride it can be a fantastic speedy platformer.

The cartoony style gets samey after a while, but this is high quality platforming. [May 2013, p.87]

Rock Runners is a great addition to the one-button runner genre, and runner fans should definitely consider giving it a whirl. What we really need now is a sequel that isn't so dependent on the same content being mashed together over and over again.

Ideally, an endless mode would have topped off the game nicely, but for now, Rock Runners is a smart mix of old and new school design, wrapped in a joyful platforming experience iOS users will dig for weeks. Kudos to everyone involved.

Rock Runners is an excellent platformer with loads of content, but it's let down by an all-too gentle difficulty curve and repetitive levels.

Rock Runners is Chillingo’s fun little twist on the endless runner genre, smartly combining platforming with the popular genre.

Recoil Games hasn't come up with anything all that fresh or unique in the world of one-touch platformers, but Rock Runners has hooks that work. If the rest of the game worked as well, relied less on repetition and more on thoughtful level design, we might have something special. Instead we find ourselves with a runner that isn't quite the same old thing, but doesn't do nearly enough to stand out.

Rock Runners does some things in a fresh way such as the excellent inspired level selection menu, and adding some exploration to an automatic runner. The hero running through the mines is a bit too generic, and I get that this might be to be able to customize him. Still I prefer a proper character with a name, and a reason for me to care.
