After everything was said and done, I wanted a bit more variety -- not just in the form of more songs -- but in some new modes or even online multiplayer. The good news is the core formula is very solid, so if you're looking for a new puzzle battle game, this is it.
Fans of competitive puzzle games will eat this up. But Magical Beat is marred by questionable gameplay mechanics, a barebones presentation, no online modes and an annoying soundtrack. If you can get past some of these problems, you'll find an interesting puzzler that doesn't quite meet its full potential.
Considering its low asking price, Magical Beat is a fantastic and bold puzzle game that only skips a few beats.
Seasoned puzzle fans will have a field day with this game, but those who prefer a little more meat in their experience will be left wanting more.
Although it provides fun in small doses, the difficulty quickly ramps up in a way that requires patience to progress. Hardcore puzzle fans, however, should not pass it up for exactly that reason.
For a $10 game, Magical Beat is a safe bet for anyone who thinks they'd like a little twist on the straightforward match-three standard.
Magical Beat could have been a really fun music puzzler, but with overly powerful A.I. it becomes more of a frustration then a fun experience.
