  • Summary: In Asheron's Call: Throne of Destiny, players experience a new epic story line and participate in a bitter struggle for power. Behind the conflict are the war-like Viamontians and their calculating, ruthless king, Varicci II. Also, powerful figures of Dereth who hid in the shadows in years past will be thrust to the forefront of the burgeoning revolution to help define Dereth's new destiny. The third installment of the original Asheron's Call series features an exhaustive amount of new game play to compliment the massive amounts of existing episodic content. Players can now choose to play Asheron's Call as a warlike Viamontian, which have long been the scourge of the nations of Ispar. The Viamontians' bids for continental domination have finally resulted in a rapidly expanding kingdom under the leadership of King Varicci. Along with the new race, players will discover and explore a unique archipelago in the North of Dereth, which is held by the Viamontians. [Turbine Entertainment] Expand

  1. Current fans will enjoy the new content and better graphics, but new players won’t be as impressed. The solid gameplay of the original shines through, although it is a bit rusty in places after a few years.
  2. There is a lot of great stuff in Asheron’s Call, period. There is an enormous landmass populated with hidden dungeons, strange creatures and mysteries begging to be solved once more.
  3. Even with the upgrade, the graphics and style of play are only appealing to the old school gamers who grew up on the original EverQuest and Ultima Online.

Throne of Destiny suffers from the same affliction every long-running online RPG suffers from--feature bloat. In catering to its paying customers, the game has become too confusing, too intimidating, and too hostile to new players.

    A decent expansion.

ToD is decent if you liked the regular old Asheron's Call. There are no truly new mechanics, just new quest and new monsters. There are finally monsters that can evade/resist/kill higher level characters. If you didn't previously enjoy AC, this will not change your mind. Expand

While it's fun to see old familiar places with shiny new graphics, the content of this expansion cathers to those who cheated and macroed their way to high levels. You need billions of XP to use those new enhancement gems. Expand
