A good addon to one of the best 2D Dungeons and Dragons RPGs ever made.
If you like the genre and you think you can overlook the slightly outdated 2D graphics (Just look at some screenshots or videos) than you should really give it a try. Its simply brilliant.
Good expansion which although very playable, didn't hold a candle to the game that spawned it. Mind you, there were no candles nor hands to hold them to anything when it came to BG1 and 1998/99. Two of the three new areas were quite uninspiring as were most of the new items and there are no new joinable NPCs. Durlag's Tower saves this expansion. It is large, dangerous, tough, very atmospheric and the story behind it is extremely well told although the boss at the bottom was very very overhyped. The final boss fight was excellent but the overall quality of the voice acting took a large hit when compared to the original. Still, I'd rather play with the expansion than without it and it's a must buy for any BG fan.
More Baldur's Gate, with a new town, a huge dungeon (Durlag's Tower) and two smaller adventures. Extra character levels, more items, and some interesting and challenging encounters. The cheesiness of monster summoning spells becomes apparent -- avoid their use for a "hard mode"! Don't play BG without it.
SummaryEven though Tales of the Sword Coast doesn't extend the storyline of the original game, the new areas added by the expansion pack are varied and well designed.
