  • Summary: The year is 2142, and the dawn of a new Ice age has thrown the world into a panic. The math is simple and brutal: The soil not covered by ice can only feed a fraction of the Earth's population. Some will live, most will die. In Battlefield 2142, players choose to fight for one of two military superpowers in an epic battle for survival, the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition. Armed with a devastating arsenal of hi-tech assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns, players also do battle using some of the most imposing vehicles known to man. Massive battle Mechs wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. When facing one of these new behemoths, players need to use their wits and an arsenal of new countermeasures like EMP grenades to level the playing field. [Electronic Arts] Expand

  1. Rampaging counter-measures aside; Battlefield 2142 is the latest and greatest release in the series and is well worth every pound/dollar/euro.
  2. A great game. However, it isn’t as big of an improvement as "Battlefield 2" was over "Battlefield 1942." The new ranking system and unlocks will definitely keep fans of the series coming back for more.
  3. Battlefield 2142 steps over Battlefield 2 in terms of graphics, gameplay, multiplayer ranks, unlocks, and game modes. Right out of the box it offers more variety in terms of selecting different game modes, more customizations in options, and a larger map selection with better maps.
  4. 80
While I feel the forced replay feature tied in with unlocking weapons is a cheap way to extend the game time, others may find that portion right up their alley.
  5. Despite a few issues, the gameplay experience in Battlefield 2142 is overwhelmingly positive - this is a rock solid shooter that requires your twitch skills as well as strategic planning and extensive use of group tactics. The sense of immersion is enthralling.
  6. With only 10 maps, a lackluster new game mode, and the only interesting modification being the infantry system, it’s hard to justify the $50 dollar price tag. But if players enjoy futuristic large scale battles and they’re already a fan of the series, then 2142 is obviously their best option.
  7. Fails to offer anything fresh. The new elements added to the franchise are shamelessly plundered from other games, and generally not as well executed. [Dec 2006, p.114]

The most balanced, well designed, team based shooter I have ever played. This game is all about skill. Love it or hate it. It is the best at what it does. Expand

Battlefield 2142 is one of the best multiplayer shooters ever made.
It has great maps, awesome gameplay and a beautiful background setting
that really made me feel being part of this future war.
You have the titan-mode which is a very enjoying gamemode.
Of course the game is old and some things are a bit glitchy and there are almost no servers online.
But believe me its still worth playing!

I've been playing this game for 2-3 years now and it is brilliant, full stop. There's no reason not to try this game out as there is a free demo version available. With the up and coming 1.51 patch (currently in beta 2 stage) there will be 3 new maps and Northern Strike for free. The in game advertising didn't effect me at all, just looks like any other in-game advertising except these ones change every once in a while. If you haven't played this game already, what are you waiting for soldier, go go go go! Expand

First - ignore every 0 rating this game gets for reasons like 'spyware' - they are idiots. There are built-in advertisements on boards on the maps, big deal. It's all related to gaming, anyways.

So, I'll start off by saying this: Battlefield 2142 was my first battlefield game, and it'll always be my favorite, unless Battlefield 3 changes that. I've played every single Battlefield, and none of them compare to Battlefield 2142 (in my opinion, a lot of people like Battlefield 2 better, but me, I'm Battlefield 2142 all the way).

It'd be impossible for me to explain why I like this game in the relatively short, 5,000 characters that this gives me, so what I'll say is, try it. Don't just try the demo either, because I doubt anybody is playing that anymore, actually go out and buy it (what is it, like, $15 - $20 now?) - Just give it a try, play on Camp Gibraltar, or some other map around that size, try Titan mode around, and just get a feel for it, I'm sure you'll love it. And if you're feeling skeptical, just look up some YouTube videos!

I think the reason I regard this game so highly is that I never played BF2 before I got it. I can completely understand why people coming from BF2 > 2142 might hate the game for it's lack of..originality. It should not have been full price I accept that. Aside from that when I think of all the "battlefield moments" I had and enjoyment I got out of this game I can't give it lower than an 8. The maps, guns, vehicles and gamemodes were all great. If you dislike the colors blue and orange you may want to stay away though. Expand

+3 for decent gameplay. +5 for originality. -8 for using punkbuster, which would only let me play multiplayer the first couple of months, with neither EA nor evenbalance (lol @ name) being able to fix. -10 for having ingame ads. After having to spend money on a game, and then be refused access to play it, how the **** can EA think it's acceptable to put ads in the game, let alone put ****ing spyware in my game?! I want my money back EA. Expand
