  1. The progressive nature of the game will test the skilled player and you soon find out that the support soldiers you choose, the way you equip yourself, is very very important. Bet on Soldier is hard but then again presenting a challenge worth fighting through makes it even more appealing.
  2. This is one for the collection, deftly using it’s emphasis on character to make it stand out from the crowd.
  3. Borrows from the Hollywood movies "The Running Man" and "Bloodsport" and then blends them with the characteristics of a traditional first person shooter. The result is a bit like most Hollywood movies, fair to good at best.
  4. Bet on Soldier would have been a great game had it not been for the poor computer AI, lack of variety in the models and the abysmal loading times/lag. Great levels, a smart presentation and immersing sound coupled with the betting aspect makes the game stand out in the crowd.
  5. 70
Bet on Soldier attempts to up the ante on the genre, but instead deals a conservative hand that only FPS fans will want to check.
  6. 70
A serviceable shooter hampered by a pile of small annoyances and lack of difficulty.
  7. Play Magazine
Bet on Soldier's action really heats up later in the campaign, the level design and intensity improve dramatically. [Nov p.103]
  8. Another one of those games that has great potential and introduces a new take on an aging genre, but after playing through the story mode once there’s not much there to keep you coming back for more.
  9. PC Format
Nice ideas, poorly executed in the main. Shows some promise online. [Dec 2005, p.96]
  10. Inconsistency in the sound, story, and graphics presentation can be jarring and distracting.
  11. 60
An interesting attempt at breaking the first-person shooter mould, and it could have been something special if the rest of the game weren’t rather mediocre.
  12. It gets halfway there with an elaborate backstory and interesting premise, but it gets too stuck in standard FPS design conventions to ever really distinguish itself as anything special.
  13. Sadly, despite this commendable attempt at innovation and the lush graphics, Bet On Soldier's combat and (non-linear) story doesn't engage on the same level as the real shining lights of the FPS genre.
  14. 57
Believability takes a hit right from the off when you can unload a clip in your drill sergeant's face without even causing his eyes to water.
  15. The mere running around, pointing the crosshair, shooting... it's all just drained of life. Not even the option of mercenary sidekicks makes much difference, they just happen to be the chaps you can't shoot. And they die without consequence. Poor fellas.
  16. The technical execution of virtually every aspect of this potentially great game is embarrassing beyond reproach. Even patched, there are a myriad of crashes, glitches, heinous load times and other bugs that should have never gotten past beta.
  17. PC Gamer
Regrettably, BOS is an FPS that's a POS. You can definitely do better. [Holiday 2005, p.68]
  18. It seems fairly clear that nobody ever gave the game a good play-through – both to see how blatantly unready the game was for retail in terms of testing, but also how bland and uninteresting the core gameplay is.
  19. 35
A completely unrecommendable mess. Even if you can get past the glaring errors, issues, bugs and problems, there is little that make the game different or more worthwhile than any other FPS ever made.
  20. It's buggy, it's ill-conceived, and it's even totally unplayable on some systems in its current state. If you think Bet on Soldier is a recipe for a game worth skipping, you're exactly right.
  21. Edge Magazine
Bet On Soldier’s non-linearity of progression, its riot-shield combat and internationally ranging scenarios suggest a game that might well have looked exciting on the drawing board. The final production, however, will leave anyone better off putting their money on the dogs. [Nov 2005, p.112]
  22. Computer Games Magazine
At least you can thank Bet on Soldier for making it easier to go back to boycotting Starforce. [Dec p.62]
  23. This is an ambitious title that tries to be original but fails on almost every level due to poor design. An odds-on failure.

This is the worst game I have ever purchased. I'm not sure if they rushed it or what but for a final release version it sucks!! you This is the worst game I have ever purchased. I'm not sure if they rushed it or what but for a final release version it sucks!! you can't play for more than a few minutes before it crashes even at the latest patch version 1.2. I thought they had a good thing going a different twist on teh FPS genre... but they missed the mark entirely with this release it should have been in beta for at least 6 - 12 months longer to work out compatability issues and then maybe they may have had a decent game.... nice try but no thanks.
