A classic from the 90s. I feel very old to start my review in this way, but very happy to have had the opportunity to play this game at that time. It is not a wonderful game, it is not a perfect game, but for that time, it guaranteed me fun!
Captain Claw was one the very first PC games that I've played. It had full Brazilian Dubbing, which was a very rare thing by that time. The game was a lot easier when I was a kid, although I could not get pass some ice cave level... nowadays I can see that it really is a very hard platform game... but is a golden gem! Me and my father had lots and lots of shared happiness playing Claw. I wish it to be remastered someday!
Claw, (also known as Captain Claw) by Monolith Productions, is a classic-type platform video game that features a two-dimensional platform world featuring a main character at its focus and enemies roaming around. There are traps, secret areas and treasure
Captain Claw is an awesome classic and I'm surprised it's so underrated and unknown..
20 years after initial release, it's still playable and looks quite alright for its time. (Not too sure about "playable" on modern system, my own is an low-end laptop with a 32-bit system).
Claw is a platformer of old times and it got the magic of true classics.
It doesn't have too much of a story or any fancy music & graphics, and while the game does not necessarily excel on all aspects, its addictive gameplay, diverse & creative levels are enough to make it worth a play, if you're fan of platform games.
All in all there are 14 levels with increasing difficulty. Each level takes place in a different environment and varied enemies. The length and difficulty are rather flexible and can be adjusted to your gameplay style - you may swoop through the levels and complete them rather quickly if you're in for casual sessions (If that's the first time you play though, there'd be some challange of course), but you may also take your time and finding all secrets and bonuses lying around the levels in order to collect the entire "treasure" each level offers.
That's about it, and it's as good and simple as it is. The gameplay mechanics are simple and easy to grasp, yet addictive and fun.
