Shines as one of the most addictive and compelling strategy titles of 2001.
  2. It's refreshing to see a development team add so much to a sequel while maintaining the spirit of the original.
  3. Truly one of the most beautiful games I have seen this year.

A fantastically challenging and fun ride...[but] if you have high blood pressure and don't react well to stress and frustration, don't buy this game. You'll go crazy and your heart will explode.
  5. The game uses a completely new 3D engine that allows for the rotation of environments so you can see where the enemy’s path is going to take them, in even more detail than ever before.
  6. The pre-rendered backgrounds...are rich in detail and create a perfect setting for the game. I don't think the entire game contains a pixel in a wrong place.
  7. Commandos 2 Men Of Courage has literally sucked the hours out of my life. The gameplay is like sheer crack addiction folks.
  8. It was a long wait for the sequel, but Pyro spent the time innovating a game that was already innovative to begin with. You're gonna love this one.
  9. Although it’s shot through with bugs and screw-ups that would remand a lesser title to the bargain bin, the game itself is so damn good you’ll forgive almost anything to keep playing. [Jan 2002, p.94]
  10. Feed the dog, kiss the wife goodbye, and tell work that you’re very ,very sick then start playing Commandos 2, and don’t blame me when you’re staring at the ceiling in the middle of the night thinking about how you could have completed the mission a better way.
  11. I loved it! It made the hours fly by like minutes...Once you get used to the interface and become more efficient at positioning the camera just right, you'll soon become totally addicted to this title.
  12. Even better than the first--its design is much more focused, the missions are more involved, and the expanded options for your commandos are all excellent.
  13. A hard game. Those without degrees in strategy gaming will find their task daunting and, in many cases, too hard to accomplish. Lucky for me I'm well versed in the ways of the special forces.
  14. Get through the initial stages of frustration and you'll realise what an incredibly title Men of Courage really is. Missions are far more involving, objectives much more focused.
  15. The difficulty is daunting, the missions feel like intricate puzzles, and the frustration factor is high. Still, nothing compares to the moment when you finally get it right.
  16. I realized that playing this game is a little like having a girlfriend: You experience brief periods of joy followed by extended intervals of utter confusion. [Nov 2001, p.29]
  17. Insanely difficult. Non-masochists need not apply. [Jan 2002, p.90]

Single player alone would warrant the 10 rating however as co-operative with 2-3 friends it is astoundingly good and responsible for some of my most treasured gaming memories.

Recent mods can be downloaded to change the game and make it even more challenging... as if it wasnt challenging enough.

Hopefully if Commandos 4 is ever released it will draw from this legacy and not the disappointment that was Commandos 3.

A variety of tactics can be used to complete the missions ranging from stealth to assaults. The bonus missions, medals and ranking makes it even more exciting. A better thing maybe would have been to start the ranks from lieutenant rather than corporal but it doesnt really make a difference in the gameplay. Every mission has a lot of diversity and keeps you on the edge of your seats while playing. Full Review »
