It not only takes what other games have done and makes them better, it creates a style and ambience that is all it’s own, this is one game that no gamer should miss, it really is just that good, and that is why I have no problem giving it a perfect score.

There’s never been a better action RPG for any system. Yes, it's even better than "Diablo."
  3. A simple, intuitive user interface, coupled with excellent sound and truly amazing visual effects for an RPG of this magnitude is amazing in itself.
  4. The most remarkable achievement that I noticed during my all-too-short time with DS is the utter and complete absence of loading times anywhere, in any level. [June 2002, p.85]
  5. A joy for the eye...wonderfully entertaining and addictive.
  6. The game with the best camera system ever. It's simplicity incarnate, and so intuitive that it makes playing the game extra fun by nature of its unobtrusiveness. [June 2002, p.46]
  7. This isn't groundbreaking, but it covers all bases with style and top-notch execution. [17 May 2002, p.82]
  8. Dungeon Siege's monumental ease-of-use is particularly impressive to me.
  9. Dungeon Siege is simple, and it is this simplicity that makes it an amazingly fun fantasy action RPG.

It may not have the depth many had hoped for, but it proves to be an extremely fun game that's insanely difficult to put down.
  11. A breathtaking work of art; an epic masterpiece that stands out in today’s jaded gaming market.
  12. If it walks, crawls, flies, swims, or shambles, it’s probably in the game, and you’ll probably get to kill it -- a lot.
  13. RPG fans may scoff at it's hack-n-slash nature, but they are missing out in this case, as Dungeon Siege provides spades of real-time tactical delight.
  14. One of the most important reason[s] that Dungeon Siege is such an improvement over its action RPG predecessors is that the interface is just downright perfect.
  15. It's remarkably involving, challenging players without overwhelming them. [July 2002, p.62]
  16. Presentation is the area in which Dungeon Siege truly shines, surpassing the techniques of its third-person RPG forbearers by a quantum leap and rivaling the best efforts of contemporary 3D releases in other genres.
  17. It is a better game than "Diablo II" in almost every aspect (save the multiplayer and the audio - D2's audio isn't anything to write home about either), and is well worth every penny spent.

The graphics are well polished and the game so addictive that it will keep you hacking, slashing, and casting for a good long while.

A solid game...Those that liked "Diablo" or just want something that will entertain without taxing their brain should be more than happy with a copy of Dungeon Siege added to their collection.
  20. Great graphics and some innovative concepts make this one worth a close look, but a thin plot, linear play, and monster AI issues prevent it from achieving true greatness.
  21. Its polished interface, accessible gameplay, and exceptional graphics make Dungeon Siege a first-rate action RPG.
  22. 82
If you loved Diablo than you will definitely love this game. If you liked parts of Diablo than you will love the game... If you love RPG's, you will love this game... If you love God and all good things... you will love this game.
  23. Lack of innovation aside, Dungeon Siege proves to be a polished, stylish and highly addictive computer game.
  24. 80
[It] will likely prove as influential as all it's inspirations.

The Diablo games don't have the weird imbalances and ambiguities Dungeon Siege does, where you're stuck trying to figure out if you want to keep an item or not. In Diablo, it was always easy to tell which items were the best and its class system, if more restrictive, is also more focused.
  26. Dungeon Siege could have used a deeper plot, more vocalizations and some good cutscenes, but like its predecessor-type RPG Diablo, it eschews deeper storylines and keeps the gamer busy with high-intensity fighting against rushes of unique enemies instead.
  27. Ask yourself if battling through hundreds of combats, most of which require no strategy other than kill the other guy first, sounds like fun.
  28. If you are expecting a genuine CRPG you might be disappointed. If you enjoy combat-driven games such as Diablo then you may well enjoy Dungeon Siege.
  29. It's positively gorgeous, but playing through the majority of the title feels more like a chore than it does like fun.

Pros: Amazingly nice 3D graphics. Some cool levels (such as the alien level) Cons: A bit too easy. Lots of copycat stuff from Icewind dale, Diablo II, and Baldur's Gate. Full Review »

Wow, is this a gorgeous game or what? The models, animations, textures, the freeze-frame action - just superb. Unfortunately, the game itself is completely tedious - it's basically just killing the same monster over and over again, with little room for tactical innovation - but I can't wait to see what else is done with the engine.
