  1. An excellent treat for fans of the books and soon to be fans of the film. The game covers a lot of territory while doing a great job of bringing a decent amount of challenge and thrills to the masses.
  2. It has nothing to offer that we haven't already seen in a thousand other hack-and-slash adventures. [Feb 2007, p.82]

Eragon isn't worth the brief amount of time it takes to play through it. The gameplay and presentation aren't up to snuff and the storytelling cutscenes don't do their job at all.

When I purchased this game I was expecting an RPG with some customization and maybe a few choice dialogs. Instead, I was teleported into battle scenes from a moviebook I had never read. The protagonist wasn’t customizable. The gear wasn’t customizable (here are 2 weapons, have fun). The game controls weren’t customizable; there wasn't even one choice based dialog in the whole game. This is a game like Harry Potter or Lego Star Wars that supports an existing story. And like those games, you have no control over the camera (basically a 3D side-scroller) .. which allows goals like finding the secret egg you cant see. And like those games, colorful things bounce out of your enemies when you hit them (Are you getting the picture?). I can respect games that allow fans to experience moments from their favorite story. But understand that is all this game is… loosely strung together action moments from a movie. The game in and of itself has no substance… no plot, no story. If the box had said, “Experience the battles of Eragon, the movie”, I could have excused these shortcomings. But the box deceivingly makes the game appear like it is something more than it is. Expand

A waste of time and money. I have managed on occasion to get the game running but usually once I get the stupid screen that advises me that a game-pad is best - nothing! I don't use a game pad and I have a new top-range computer with2Gb DDR2 memory, an 8600 graphics card 256Mb GDDR3 ram, and this useless game doesn't work. As far as the game is concerned, the amateur programmers should look for work more in line with their abilities. I am sure there must be a number of janatorial vacancies around. Expand
