   I saw it for sale, laughed at the name and thought for a minute how brilliant it would be to remake fantasy general. Went home, looked at reviews, and bam! instantly ashamed for not buying it on the spot, have not been dissapointed.    The AI is quite good (without "cheating") which makes this one of the most challenging turn-based games I have played in a long while. The perk-tree is intriguing, albeit lacking in adequate documentation. This game will stretch your strategy muscles in good ways.… Expand

   Fantasy Wars is a turn-based game with RPG-like level progression for each unit. Like the name suggests, it takes place in a fantasy world inhabitad by Orcs, ogres, knights and other creates one might expect from such a theme.. The player is faced with the challenge of either defeating a fixed army of enemies or complete certain objectives that involve bringing units from point A to B on a series of maps within a certain amount of turns. If the player fails to complete the main objectives within the allotted amount of turns at the start of the map, he will lose the game. There are bonuses for finishing the maps as fast as possible that will be awarded to you at the end of the map. There is a downside to this; the game relies heavily on the player doing his best during the early stages of the game as everything you do, counts towards your army's strength later on in the game. Whether that be keeping groups from dying out entirely, collecting gold or chasing down artefacts that will grant your units special abilities or simply better statistics. Looting these objects and killing enemies to train your troops takes time or better said: turns. If you want to take your time to loot the map and kill every enemy on it, you'll probably rarely, if ever, achieve gold or silver status. This is a tactical decision to be made by the player and although sometimes frustrating, it adds a sense of urgency. The combat in this game is very well done, units can support units in squares next to them, there are different types of terrain and this game makes sure that the player is well informed about whatever he's about to do. There are plenty of good looking units to mix and match to suit people's play style and the storyline isn't half bad for something with an uninspiring title as "Fantasy Wars". My complaints with this game are that it gets repetitive. Each map you enter simply throws a larger number of enemies at you than the map before did and that it creates an atmosphere of doubt where you will roll back to a previous save because you know losing certain units or spending too much gold will just come back to haunt you for the rest of the game. Other than that, it can be quite a bit of fun to puzzle your way through the fights if you can combine carefulness with the right amount of haste… Expand
