To sum it up, Flashback 2 was worth a playthrough, and as a fan of the original, I had fun with it. It’s probably the easiest Platinum you can get, too. But the experience is tainted by lots of technical bugs and very linear, flat gameplay design. At its launch price of $40, I’m hesitant to recommend it to anyone that isn’t an ardent Flashback fan who might be more forgiving of the flaws. Whether any more patches get released is anyone’s guess, but even if the technical bugs get ironed out, the gameplay is still thin and pretty lackluster.
A game as legendary as Flashback deserves a better sequel than this one. Yes, it has some good ideas and shows passion for science-fiction, but it delivers a poor technical optimization and a lackluster game design.
This is the first game I’ve reviewed I recommend no one buy. At $39.99 it is far too expensive for what it is, even if it didn’t have major bugs, and since there is a good chance you will encounter a game breaking bug, sadly I can’t recommend it at any price. This one is bad.
The original Flashback continues to shine as one of the greatest games ever created. Its enduring brilliance serves as a reminder of what a truly exceptional gaming experience can be. As time goes on, we can only hope that Flashback 2 will fade into obscurity, allowing the legacy of its predecessor to remain undiminished.
It's an abysmal end, resulting in a controversial sequel, leaving fans of 1992's rad Flashback most likely preferring to return to Conrad's previous amnesia in the original's plot to forget that Flashback 2 ever existed.
Flashback 2 could have channeled the first game's spirit while presenting a new spin on the action. It fails spectacularly, lacking polish and nearly any redeeming qualities.
While the original Flashback is an Amiga classic, Flashback 2 can only be described as a meagre sequel. Rehashed story elements, dull and clunky combat, a shockingly modest presentation, peculiar design decisions, and wholly unacceptable technical deficiencies (the bulk of which persist even after two post-release patches) make for an adventure that left me underwhelmed at best and utterly infuriated at worst. While I’ll always feel nostalgic for Conrad Hart’s original adventure, Flashback 2 is unfortunately not the blast from the past I had hoped for – instead, it’s a total misfire.
But what a disaster this game is...
It's full of bugs.
Scripts that don't run.
Random saves.
Resumes exactly where you died, right in the middle of the mobs.
Absolutely non-existent level design.
But worst of all, quests that are impossible to finish, but unlocked without you having completed them.
And we don't know why, the gameplay is totally changed on the last part.
A really bad game with old ideas that just don't work.
Avoid it. And there's absolutely no way to make up for it.
Shallow stroyline, frustrating and poor game mechanics and combat, no weapon upgrades, no other weapons, irrelevant bike rides, missing story pieces, frequent crashes. simply a terrible game.
this game is a ****'s literally an insult to the 1st mytic ****, in 2023, can we make such a lousy game?
- the game is riddled with errors,
- scripts that won't launch,
- some quests complement buggy like the quest for presidents
- texture bugs
- bad gameplay
- level design worthy of a beginner
- non-existent game design
even the story is badand
this lousy gun ? like a child's toy that goes piu-piu!
this game is a disgrace!
I played this game on PC after waiting patiently for an extra year while microids "polished the game", to say I am disappointed is a massive understatement. The environments look nice but the graphics shake freeze and shudder every few seconds making everything jerky. the game controls are an absolute joke, sometimes not responding to inputs or having so much lag you end up mashing the controller. The biking section is a waste of time, you literally just go round in a big circle until you reach your exit ramp, hitting into the traffic just stops you but there is no penalty for doing so. The player movements are floaty and unresponsive with the jump button only reacting when you are stood in the correct spot, there is no fall damage at all, I just dropped right down an elevator shaft with no injuries. Shooting mechanics are a nightmare as the game makes it practically impossible to aim your weapon and reloading has to be done while aiming. The story is really half baked and for some reason conrad is now a 19 year old brat who likes daquiris. I managed to break the game over half way through with a quest failing to complete, when I ran back to the area to repeat it all the monsters had respawned but I could not finish it off, I ended up clipping through scenery and actually falling straight off the map several times. this game is utter rubbish, save yourself the heartache of expecting a trip down memory lane, this is not even close to the original title. for shame microids, for shame.
