80Gunman Chronicles has a cracking storyline running throughout with its fair share of twists and turns. All of this is set upon some truly stunning landscapes and against some pretty fearsome foes.
-
80I really, really enjoyed Gunman Chronicles, but the game is not without its weaknesses - though the graphics can be excellent, there are also some very amateurish textures present, as well as glitches that really should have been worked on.
-
Even though there are some weak moments, overall its a great deal of fun being the guy who can stop the horrifying Xenomes from destroying humanity.
-
80It's a solid shooter, and does some small things extremely well; in some cases even groundbreaking. However, it too often comes up short, both in length and excitement.
-
Rewolf has managed to take an aging formula and prove that with enough pizzazz -- as well as some minor innovation -- what most people consider old hat can be just as entertaining as something made with all the latest ingredients.
-
A pretty fun ride. At times it really does feel like a mod, and it may have been a stretch to release this as a commercial product, but it's not a bad bet for fans of FPS.
-
75Know this - Gunman is swathed in gratifyingly filthy gunslinging action. Savour it while you can.
-
74There are some really good points to the game, but also some really bad things to go along.
-
It is fun in places and does have some FPS gaming goodness, but it is too short in both length and originality.
-
72The level design doesn't hold a candle to many of the latest games, but Gunman still pulls off a very entertaining single player experience.
-
70A good-looking FPS with a huge assortment of baddies, as well as a multitude of impressive environments. And although the action is fairly cut and dry, it is still a shooter's joy while it lasts.
-
70Generic and bland. Don't get me wrong...it's a mildly entertaining game, it's just nothing special. It makes a great total conversion, but as a full retail game selling for $30, it ultimately lacks depth and swims with the "pitifully average" kids at the public pool.
-
70If all you are looking for is a good-looking program and a reason to shoot just about everything that moves, this could be the program you are looking for.
-
70The engine is dated, the story is shallow, and the replay factor is quite low. Aside from going through the game once, there really isn't much you would learn or gain by going through the game a second time.
-
70It's like day old meatloaf: still delicious, but still meatloaf.
-
70While it doesn't necessarily capture the imagination to the extent that "Half Life" did, it does pack a pretty good punch.
-
69If we take it for what it really is - a mod, then one could label Rewolf's baby as a nice mod success story with mediocre retail reach and appeal.
-
65The game would have been a great freebie to offer as a download. Episodic? Sure! Packed in with "Half-Life Platinum"? You betcha. Slap a price tag on it? No.
-
A good first effort, but it's too derivative of Half-Life in many spots, and it lacks focus and polish.
-
58While GC introduces some new gameplay conventions - such as the customizable weapons and controllable vehicle - that weren't attempted by the original Half-Life, it's nothing that prior user-created mods like Chemical Existence haven't done before.
-
58Gunman Chronicles isn't a terrible game, I just suspect many of us have been there and done that.
-
52Better "Half-Life" fixes can be dowloaded for free. [Feb 2001, p.71]
-
50Is Gunman Chronicles a good total conversion? For the most part, yes. Is Sierra trying to milk the Gordon Freeman cow one too many times? Absolutely.
-
While Gunman Chronicles looks a lot like Half-Life, it lacks the personality and creativity that made Half-Life such an epic game.
-
It's very short and predictable, leaving the graphics to stand on their own as the best feature of the game.
-
It contains many individual elements that are quite good, but those elements don't pull together into a cohesiveor enjoyablewhole.
