While the mechanics definitely work better that in Lucius’ first killing adventure, the Devil’s son stumbles over bugs, clumsy UI and a total lack of atmosphere.

Worth to buy this game with $ 19.99? no you can wait to get it around $ 10
My rating is based on the major bugginess. The poor controls and sound. As well as the repetitiveness of the murders and ways to solve them. This is most likely one of those games they should have just stopped after the first. I really hope they don’t make another.
Action adventure game below average, in which the only interesting thing is location and horror atmosphere. Everything else is generic, boring and full of design and technical errors.
It's an utter and complete disaster. It might end up in some trash lover's collection, and that would be already something for a game that has no reason to sit on the shelves today.

I wrote that part with my head, which was hitting keyboard a lot while I was playing this ugly, poorly designed and painfully underdeveloped game. [04/2015, p.69]
Outdated graphics, history not very good, the game is simply any buggy, it's a pretty heavy topic and never retrado in a game before and it's cool because it is an innovative way content, great scenery without details and its price this good.
Final note: 5.1
I mean... it's fine? I'm not going to say that Lucius II is an underappreciated gem or the worst game ever. It was certainly made on a budget and it shows. From the janky animations all the way up to the strangely limited and linear-feeling sandbox of each level, it's not hard to tell what kind of game this is. I can at least give it this: it delivers on you being the antichrist. When it works as intended, which is not often, this is the game is **** nasty. Blood sprays everywhere and the gore feels appropriately exaggerated. That said, when it's not working as intended, it's funny for reasons. Let me put it this way: Shiver Games struck gold with the first Lucius by releasing it in the early parts of the decade's first half when Let's Players were just starting to boom in popularity. The discourse around that game, other than the gore and shock value, was how little it did effectively with the way it presented its premise. When this thing released, the only videos I saw about it were about how hilariously broken it was at release. Even PewDiePie--who, by 2015, was still doing his 'appeal-to-the-lowest-common-denominator' style of screech humor--made the game look weak. He spammed three kills over and over again, didn't do much with the powers, and highlighted just how borked some of the game's core systems (such as Ai) were. The AI is probably the worst part of this game. It ticks all of the boxes: can I get out of being chased by leaving this person's line of sight for two seconds? Check. Can I manipulate it into doing things that the developer may not have intended? Oh boy, that's a big check. Do I struggle to manipulate it into doing the things the developer intended? Check, check, aaaand CHECK. Is it more impressive how broken it is than how technically solid it is? Don't think I need to explain this one, but check.
If I am to be totally fair to what the developers did right, the more linear parts of this game are rock-solid. There were a couple of kills that the developer set-up that got a good chuckle out of me. Best of all, none of this game is horribly offense and has to rely on being overly edgy to entertain. The entire Lucius trilogy is uneven on a scale of 'shocking, but entertaining' to 'owch, I hope you don't cut yourself on that edge'. Lucius II is, thankfully, on the left side of the scale.
When the best part of your non-linear sandbox game are the bits where you're encouraged to do what the developers want you to do, there's an issue. If there's one thing to be said about the entire Lucius trilogy, it's that it suffers from a massive identity crisis. The best way to explain it is that it's the natural cause of trying to stuff too much into your game without knowing how to design around everything you've implemented. To put it even more bluntly, all three games lack focus. The best game in the entire trilogy is the Demake of the first game. All of the presentation-quirks of the original game were wiped clean. It felt like the straightforward adventure game the developers wanted to make. Going forward, if Shiver has any more games left in them, what I'd like to see from them is more scaled-back experiences like that. They have a talent for making immersive, if limited, worlds and put to better use, there's the potential for a truly amazing title in there. Sadly, Lucius II isn't that.
I think it's better than the first game. At least the tasks and their locations are better defined and diversity is offered. But it's still a bad game regardless. I have passed the bugs and various errors, but the gameplay in general is also bad. It gets boring after a while. Some sections may have to be played over and over again due to errors in the game.
A game that could have been good, but that has gotten so, oh so wrong.
Lucius II starts 6 months after the events of the first game. Robbed of his powers by his father, the 8 year-old son of Satan starts his new journey in a mental hospital where he has been committed.
Now, the game itself presents a story that has a huge potential : Lucius is on a race against his brother (from another family, brother as in other son of Satan) to launch the Apocalypse by following the Bible's prophecy (hence the title of the game).
However, the game presented it in such a poor manner that it almost seemed like the developers were putting the scenario of the game in the background. Each chapters has a certain amount of levels (which all are hopefully long unless you rush through, despite the game's length being very modest), and between each level we are greeted with a cutscene explaining what's going on. Sadly, the cutscenes are very, very obscure and they barely explain as much as they should. This leads most of the time to do the brainless task of following the objectives conveniently displayed both at the top left corner of the screen, and on the map. No brainer! Who needs explanations when you can kill people and be Satan's son, right?
Speaking of killing people, the gameplay is also a bad point of the game. Lucius the first was a game based around problem solving, and being able to carefully plan your murders in a way to never, ever be caught or even suspected by your family. Lucius II is GTA with a broken stealth mood. Anything sounds wrong here?
In every level, among the tasks that you have to complete, you're able to kill pretty much everyone that you want. Now of course you're just a little 8 years-old boy, so you can't just go and swing a gun around. The game pretty much works this way : the game gives you around 2 different ways to kill the "important" victims, added a plethora of more "basic" ways to kill (the innocents you'll kill will just have to go through the basic ways of killing only). From poisoning food to give, to electrocute, to launch a high-pressured gas tank or even activating a pulley to smash huge containers in their face, you can really have a kick out of it. Or not. You actually can't.
This idea, which was good, is impeded by the major flaws this game has :
- The stealth is broken. It is super easy to just go around on your merry killing way as long as you don't stay literally in front of the person as they die. There can be a witness, they will barely care at all. The previous game had a very strict stealth system, this one is just a joke.
- The AI is beyond imbecile. You can have in your hands a (poisoned) donut box and, while being in front of the NPC, throw it on the ground, they'll still pick it up and eat it on the spot. They quickly forget about you, barely react when you're in places you shouldn't be (except the "forbidden" areas in which case they literally launch at you like hungry monsters), and they just don't react to almost anything. This is way too easy.
- The murders are repetitive and boring. As mentioned before, said "basic ways of killing" remain the same everywhere in the game, making it far too simplistic sometimes to even try to look for an actual good way. And when you have enough experience and levels stacked with the correct skills, it just becomes a healthy walk in the woods at this point.
And, to make it even more simple, we can add this last flaw to another : this game is glitched beyond possibility! Poor camera angles, controls are terrible (especially when possessing someone), pulling items such as trolleys is a torture, everything goes into walls, the detection of collisions is a joke and you can even recycle some murder weapons!
The first game was already criticized for its important amount of glitches, yet they somewhat did even worse!
You can find at some point acid bottles that you can throw on your victims. Instant death. Now, the game says it's "broken", yet you can keep it, and re-use it at the next level. Stack them and you'll have more and more easy murder weapons.
Speaking of glitches, the audio of the game often bugs, subtitles don't even show sometimes when they should and, if we forget that, the audio quality is just ridiculous. While the ambiance with the musics is absolutely great, the sound effects have an absolute terrible quality and the voice acting (except the cop helping us) are bad and also very poor in terms of quality! It seems like most were recorded with a poor microphone integrated in a cheap laptop!
Long story short, this game is bad. A mess, a botched joke and should not be bought.
Possibly the worst sequel I have ever seen in my life. The first game had great ideas that needed to be expanded upon. This game is sort of a kill em up in boring and repetitive ways in a terribly overused environment. Very buggy as well.
SummaryLucius is taken to the psychiatric ward of St. Benedict’s Hospital by unsuspecting caretakers. The Book of Revelation predicts the birth of a child that would end up ruling the world with an iron rod. The first part of this prophecy has been fulfilled. It is time to take care of the rest.
