  • Summary: Dedicated to creating a story and environment that is a true representation of graffiti culture, fashion pioneer Marc Ecko has enlisted 50 of the world's most elite graffiti artists to lend their best artwork and personal experiences to the game and consult with The Collective to give Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure the authentic look and feel of a real urban environment. The game creates its own genre of gameplay, combining combat, action, adventure and stealth. It uses a thrilling graffiti-driven framework to tell its story of self-expression and the fight for creative freedom. A thug, an outcast, a rebel...the lead character, Trane, is all of these in Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. He sets out to earn his street cred by getting his graffiti tag up throughout the politically oppressive city of New Radius but as events unfold, Trane becomes the unlikely leader of an urban revolution. The story's "Get In, Get Up and Get Out" gameplay mechanic offers gamers a unique arsenal of swift stealth and street fighting abilities to GET IN restricted areas of New Radius and battle through the city's rough streets; the dexterity and agility to scale any object in order to GET UP and place graffiti tags, spreading the message of rebellion; and the ingenuity to evade, escape and GET OUT. 1. Luckily, the smooth controls guarantee that all you'll have to worry about is dribbling paint and bumbling cops.
  2. The end result is an interesting and often-exciting adventure that should be appealing to most action-game fans, but will probably hold extra appeal if you're at all interested in graffiti and the culture surrounding it.
  3. A mediocre action-adventure with an excellent sense of style. If you love hip-hop and spray-paint, you should be playing this game, otherwise, this game is best left on the shelf.
  4. The possibility of this all coming together in a more flexible and engaging manner is still a welcome one. But, for a game based on a culture of reputation, craftsmanship and leaving a mark, Getting Up is one that’ll pass by largely unnoticed. [Mar 2006, p.86]

While I found the over all theme interesting and some of the game fun. It's obviously a console game with a poor conversion to PC. You can't remap any controls, (Sorry left handers) without editing a cfg file. The camera will "lock" in certain areas and "jiggle" if you try and move it, making painting in some areas very difficult. Something that should be able to be reached result in Trane doing a slow mo "I can't jump that high" sort of thing. I did like the soundtrack, though after exiting and restarting, the same track plays, so you get sick of certain songs quick. Also, while I though some of the Grafitti in the black book was neat, you can't create your own and also, they reset if you leave the game and at the start of new missions. So if you enjoy picking out your favorite 30 stickers, stensils and throw-ups before EVERY mission, you're going to be at home. (Which results in you using the defaults more ofthen than not) Overall the thing I enjoyed most was the background on some of the real taggers and also trying to get way up high to some of the spots to tag. But if I had to go back, I'd rent it. Expand

Good game but also some flaws: the controls in the PC version are difficult to use. No custom tags.

Another dissapointment and money wasted on a game that I lose interest in due to the fact that I cant play the game on my PC like a PC game, because I cant use the mouse like I've been using it since. I use the Mouse Please! Expand
