  • Summary: Take command of one of these notorious companies and lead it to victory against all odds through most of the war on the Eastern front. Fight from desperate battles in 1942 in the area of Volyn in the Ukraine, to the massive operation "Bagration" in the Brest area, Magnush bridgehead and Warsaw area in Poland and finally to attacks on the German Altdam and Stettin near the end of the war. Men of War Condemned Heroes tells the story of the penal battalions during World War II. The single player is really difficult, but fun and deep. A good game for all lovers of good strategy!

This realtime tactic is as inviting as an Ukrainian dugout. But strangely enough, if you finally got yourself immersed in the partially unfair skirmishes, all of a sudden you want to continue.

A good game. The question is; do you have the patience to play it? Newcomers to the genre probably won't, and even veterans might get easily annoyed at the feeling of helplessness the game can give you when there are so many units but such little control.

  1. Very hard, but if you're willing to dedicate time to it then it's a great game. And they also included multiplayer, but even if it is only 4 maps and 2 gamemodes I don't care, because I played AS for the single player so I don't find that a sad loss. But the singleplayer is great, and it will take you a while. Overall, good for fans of the series but newcomers should try out AS first. If the single player is difficult on easy for you, then STAY AWAY from the singleplayer. It is very hard! Also, the game states that the men must not be called 'cannon fodder', GAMESPOT, as it is insulting those men who were killed in battle. Expand
  2. The entire Men of War series is an unrealized diamond in the rough. The premise is great, but the execution is severely flawed. Controls and User Interface is most wanting, and anything more than two squads and the gamer is basically swamped. Line of Sight, while a very interesting proposition is poorly implemented due to the typical atrocious AI.

This could have been one of the better or best ww2 squad based action rts out there, but it fails fairly miserably due to poorly implemented basics.
Veterans of the game may say otherwise, but if you're a newbie to the genre, there are better offerings out there like Relic's Company of Heroes. If you're a sucker for punishment, then try one of the many Men of War iterations. However, stay clear away from Men of War Vietnam, as that is the worst of the entire franchise.
