Im having a serious problem here. Im gettin 1 fps in the game with a 1.2 GHz cpu, GF4 Ti 4200, and it should run smooth but no, its running like crap, anyone know what to do here?

I first started playing the Metal Gear series back when Metal Gear Solid came out for the PSX. I fell in love with the game straight away, just because it felt as if I was watching and playing a movie at the same time. The cinematics, music and sound is absolutely breathtaking, not to mention the flawless techniques you can use to infiltrate enemy fire and the ammount of awesome weapons you can use! I have an AMD Athlon XP 2400 (2.4Ghz) with 512mb RAM and a GeForce 4 MX440 (64mb RAM) and it works fine! I don't why so many of you guys are having problems. I haven't found any bugs yet, and I won't lie but the port could've been done a whole lot better. I mean afterall there is an option to turn Vibration ON or OFF (hehe). Anyway, overall the game is one of the best games i've ever played in my life. Once I start playing Splinter Cell i'll compare it, but until then. I love the Metal Gear series and Hideo Kojima rules! Also, did you guys know that Harry Gregson-Williams did the music for the game? If you don't know who Harry Gregson-Williams is.. well.. he's the musician who did the music for movies like Spy Game with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt and Armageddon with Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck. This game is wonderful. I play it all my free time. But i don't like factor part it's another part of game i like Solid Snake. Raiden is too good but Snake is Snake and got it Famous STORY. It's Ever played game on the world and the BEST but DOOM III and QUAKE 4. Wel we can be wonder but Metal Gear is best played game of the Year 2003.

I've heard lots of stories about this game, i suppose thats what drove me to buy it, how ever when i got home and sat throught the 7GB+ install only for it to not work, i was kind of disapointed. aparently Konami are working on a patch for it so i guess i'll have to wait for the action :(

I bought this for the PC, and it works very well. However they've screwed up on a few cinematics. I cant do the Plant Episode because of it, it freezes in a codec sequence (Also crashed in 2 other cutscenes). Dunno if it happens to everyone, but it happens to me. Other than that its a very good game with plenty of VR missions and specials to keep you amused.

AHHHHHH HELP MEEE!!! after spending like an hour to install the 7+ gigs, i run the game at like 1 frame per minute (I'm serious. I left it on for an hour and it was still playing the intro :-(. I can run all the other latest games fine... got an ATI radeon 9500. Neone else got this problem and kno how to fix? plz. email if u do.

Nice game...with nice story the graphics is good, well not good enough as splinter cell though. I run the game with amd 1700+, ram 256+128, win xp. geforce 4mx, well i think there's no problem. Well for the owner of radeon, you should update driver, radeon still have problem with these stupid driver. I think they make driver with pure assembly(whew... how long the source code could be??) so still many bugs and problems. Or you can make your own driver, can't you?? ;(. well, anyway this game is great. But it takes so many spaces 7.7GB!!!… Expand

I played Metal Gear Solid on the PSX and loved it. I loved it so much I went and baught Metal Gear Solid 2 for the PC as soon as it was out. Well, it looks good, but i still can't play it because the port over from the PSX2 to the PC was done so bad. I have no idea what key does what since the instruction manual that came with MGS2 is for the PSX2 and not for the PC. The option tab that allows me to define my keyboard and joypad layout is like something I've never seen before and haven't got it to work properly. Something tells me KONAMI put in little effort to make this a decent game for the PC.… Expand

This game is super :) i have ati radeon 9700 and new drivers and all is ok. Only films sometimes slowing hmm...

Cant use the mouse and keyboard to play like with Splinter Cell. They did the worst port job in gaming history, the least they could have done was make a new manual for pc rather than use the console one.

Man, Played da 1st part, Game story is kool, only game i can play a 1000 times and not get bored! when is it coming to PC?! it says 18 march but i have'nt heard squat about it!(Had to give it a 10 even tho i didnt play it! shows u how good this game is) :)

The game is great on PS2 and X-Box but for the PC port Konami decided to screw ATI Card owners and f*** up all the effects so that they only look right on nVidia cards. This makes ATI card owners have to look at blurry disorted images whenever they go into the rain. The gameplay is still good but the controls suck because the mouse doesn't actually control, you can only click it to shoot. The gameplay is the same as the PS2 and X-Box versions which is the one point that made me pull the score up to a 5. The bottom line is that the game is a kick-@$$ game with a half-@$$ port.… Expand

This game would be perfect if it were actually optimized for PC. You'll have to deal with frame rate and control problems, but everything else is superb.

The game is great!! :) But since u almowst hav to hav a gamepad thats 100% like the PS2 gamepad its kinduva cheap. :'( i am bying a new one coz of that, the one i have now dosent have all the knobs and lacks the r2 l2 buttons thats almowst a must!!! and u cant change the gamepad controls either and thats one more reason i need a new gamepad!!! i had some problems with the sound first time i completed the game, but i know how to fix it now so the game works just great :)))) I love it!! the graphics and the story is great!!! i am gona buy *Metal gear:solid* for PC to :D just gotta have it!!! its a great game but it is a slappy port afterall :'( BTW soon i have the new gameapd :D cant wait!! … Expand

Looked good, but controls suck ass. I installed it yesterday and tried to play for a few hours - terrible. A PC game with just keyboard control? wtf - wake up Konami - safe to say I'll be avoiding Konami from now on.

Ok, the only thing relating back to the history of Metal Gear is the whole "Patriots" thing,and perhaps the appearance of Solidus.They replaced an awesome rugged hero like Solid Snake with a dork with an annoying voice.Making the MG story suddenly revolve around some other random guy is like taking Vash out of Trigun,it just shouldn't be done.The only thing enjoyable about this game is either the Snake Tales extra or the Tanker.There were so many things left to cover from where MGS1 left off that starting a different plot was idiotic.I don't want to hear about Jack and Rose,I want to hear more about Les Enfants Terribles,I want to find out exactly what Snake is.MGS2 didn't answer anything except showing us what Snake was up to after the Shadow Moses Island incident.I can only pray MGS3 won't be as disappointing.… Expand

I could only play MGS2 in my friends house, as I do not have a PS2. But now at last I can play it on my PC. I cant wait to get it : ).

On the PS2, this was an amazing game, with a very touching story line and excellent graphics. However, today, the game does look a tad dated (in comparison to UT2003 or DOOM III), but holds its own against the slightly dodgy Splinter Cell. I think that if you have a PC with 1.3 GHZ onwards, and a Geforce 4 Ti card (4200 onwards) then you sould never really have a problem. Defrag your harddrive as well, and nothing should go wrong. The poor porting isn't really the problem , its just thew fact that they did make it especially for NVidia Cards! (Also, make sure you processor is either an AMD Athlon XP or a Pentium 4, otherwise the graphics could easily suffer no matter what graphics card you have)… Expand

in comparison to the likes of sonic the the hedgehog the game is lesser the game doesent have the frill of playing tails and jumping on badniks and have satisfaction of freeing the furry animails the graphics of sonic may be dated but the sweet colours and trainers ahead of there time make me wanna give this game a 10

Graphics is good, game play is good. Sadly, There are two things that I have a problem with: 1) the controls are wierd (2) I've come across what seems to be a script hang when you meet Olga on the tanker. Other then that, the game is cool.

I got this game for my birthday and cant complete the first level due to it crashing and restarting my computer then telling me i t has just recovered from a serious error. i am running the game on an amd xp2700 (2.67gig), 512 mb ram (2700ddr) asus a78nx delux motherboard, maxtor 60gig ata 133 harddrive, and a gainward gefore 4 4800 vivo 128mb.

Just purchased today (July 17, 2003). Installed the full pkg ~7GB. This game will not run on my AMD XP 2500+ (Barton), ASUS A7N*x-Deluxe, 1.0GB Ram, ATI Radeon VE. I just get a black screen. I am soooooo frustrated!!!!!!!!

I have the same stutter problem that all the other pissed owners have, and my system is above the min. specs; P4 1.8 Ghz, 512 Meg RAM, NVidia GeForce4 Ti 4400. I get about 2 frames/ sec in movie and in game. Controls suck the worst I ever saw in a game, plus the manual is NO help. The only patch released in THREE years is for another video card, and we are left out in the cold with our problems!
