This is the second time in a month that I’ve been completely bowled over by an indie project that I’d never even heard of, created by people whose games I’ve never played. I can think of no better indicators that no matter how bad SimCity turned out, no matter how disappointing the gameplay in Bioshock Infinite, no matter how familiar any Call of Duty, no matter whether the next Xbox is always online, it’s a perfect time to be into videogames.
Monaco is a lot like Hotline Miami. The latter is a great "psychedelic killing simulator" while Monaco is probably one of the best "burglar simulators" out there. All it took was simple graphics, good ideas and excellent execution (and that meant many months of hard work). Monaco is a complicated machine that delivers chaos and fun at the player's wish. It's worth a shot!
I spent 180 hours on this game: this speaks for me. Very good game, in my opinion as good in solo than in multiplayer (new PVP maps are terrific). Wonderful team of developers, very active and attentive. The level editor is amazing, so the quality of the workshop maps is excellent. New contents are also added regularly (a fourth campaign is coming). My favorite game of 2013, definitely. And 2014?
The co-op on this game was like **** 5 willys at once. The spank the monkey flash game had better graphics than this piece of bird poop. Before I play this game I am going to chop off my feet with a DJ deck. This game should be called "Ride the rhino whilst **** its toe nails".
While some of the controls can be a bit bothersome, the overall gameplay mechanics and sense of enjoyment is overwhelming. Mix one of the most gratifying cooperative campaigns in recent history with an absolutely charming cast of characters, and you have an addictive upper echelon independent game.
This arcade-style take on stealth takes a careful balance of planning and execution, and even if it’s not quite a perfect crime, it’s still a pretty darn good one.
Great game!, I've played this game for hours on end, incredible game if you're into multiplayer puzzle games. This game will keep you engaged, planning heists with your mates and executing plans.
Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine is an isometric heist game that is worth your time if you are playing it co-op. The gameplay has a nice arcade vibe to it. You can play it just to beat the game or you can try clearing the missions in the shortest time possible and get your name in the high score ranking. You choose among many characters and each character offers a different experience to play through a mission. Characters are not necessarily balanced. For instance, playing as Cleaner will probably make things easier. That said, Monaco is a game for simple co-op action and laughs, so I can’t really complain.
There is not much depth into Monaco. Having read the second campaign is more like a “hard mode”, I have only played through the Locksmith’s story and did not have the desire to keep going. The first campaign, however, offered enough variety and good jokes (make sure you read the dialogues) to keep me entertained. Nevertheless, I would recommend Monaco especially if you are looking for a co-op game. You will enjoy it more if you don’t set your expectations too high.
6.5/10
Honestly the game exceeded my expectations and I do not take away the merit for its originality.
It's a stealthy-fast paced game that sometimes is pretty hard and challenging.
Visually it has a cool pixel graphic style that I appreciate and the soundtrack is interesting, and fits like a glove in the game. Despite not having tested multiplayer I think the game would be quite interesting to play that way.
Highly recommend it. It is extremely fun!
Had rather high expectations about this game and unfortunately, they never reached that level. I think the biggest problem is the messy graphics thats becomes a big bowl of psychedelic effects when you are up to four players. But in the other hand, we probably play the game the wrong way as the game wanted us to play it. Instead of taking it easy we stressed around in sheer panic. I will give it one more chance, but for now I can not recommend this game.
I normally enjoy Indie games, I like stealth games and I like puzzle games. I even like heist games! So it's rather depressing that I don't enjoy Monaco. It's not a terrible game, but I just don't find it fun.
It's far too easy for someone you're playing with to blunder into a trap and ruin the stealth you're going for, and once you trip an alarm the game devolves into a stupid farce of running around like idiots trying to hide from guards so that they conveniently reset and let you walk around again.
The graphics are stylistic but also not particularly charming IMO. I'd say graphics like FTL give a good example of memorable Indie graphics. In Monaco everything is basically either neon or pixelated and blocky. The characters are just poorly textured blocky lumps, ugly more than anything.
While I quite liked the little bits of story exposition between missions (which can be quite amusing), I'd say the game is highly overrated in general and really doesn't do the stealth or action sides of things particularly well.
SummaryMONACO is a single player or co-op heist game, in which players assemble a crack team of thieves to infiltrate and loot the ridiculously wealthy denizens of Monaco.
