  1. Presto has raised the bar, taking gaming from a pastime and moving it into the realm of a legitimate art form.
  2. Few recent graphic adventures get as many things right as Exile does. It reminds you of why you began playing adventure games in the first place.
  3. So essentially, the graphics, the sound, the story and the puzzles are marvellous. They all add up to one fantastic adventure game.
  4. If "Riven" was impressive, this is extraordinary. The images are smooth and crisp and detailed. Clouds look like clouds, rock looks hard, water is fluid and deep, and sharp looks like it would hurt.
  5. An extremely succesful and balanced adventure, and a worthy sequel in a venerable franchise.
  6. Exquisitely detailed, satisfying, immersive, and challenging – worth buying.

If stunning, real-time rendered visuals and significantly improved functionality are any evidence, the third time is indeed the charm.
  8. The in-game graphics are beautiful. The only thing that bugged me was the fact that I couldn't make it work in anything higher than 640x480 (the previews mentioned it would support anything up to 1600x1200).
  9. Ultimately, what's most impressive about Myst III is that it combines intellectual challenge, solid storytelling, and scene after scene of stunning, imaginative beauty.

New life for the Myst franchise, but the non-believers won't be convinced. [July 2001, p.62]
  11. A great adventure game. While it is short, it is still a great ride while it lasts and one of the few games that a family (of all ages) can actually sit around the computer and play together.

There's no other game that has pulled me in quite as much as Exile, relieving stress in a way that no shooter ever has.

The lower difficulty level might be a downer for those that managed to finish "Riven." Either way, Presto did a pretty good job with a notable addition to the series.
  14. Drop-dead gorgeous graphics, excellent story, talented actors, brilliant orchestral score.

The strongest, most-polished game in the series, but it is definitely a sequel.
  16. If you are looking for a challenging and atmospheric brainteaser that places an emphasis on puzzles rather than reflexes, then this four-disc set is a good bet.

If you are not a fan of "Myst," Myst III offers you an empty plate. For fans of the series it is an entire smorgasbord.
  18. A pretty average adventure. I think if Presto Studios made a mistake, it's that they tried to make the game too much like the original Myst. They got the look and feel right, and they created a good set of puzzles, but, like Myst, they completely ignored story elements and character interaction.
  19. With timid gameplay and puzzles that are either too simple or very difficult, it isn’t an easy game to sit patiently and play. If you can wade through that, you’ll find a rather captivating storyline awaiting you.

As usual, fairly descent acting from Rand Miller as Atrus, and a surprise in Brad Dourif (who played Wormtongue in Lord of the Rings) as the exile. I won't get into too much detail, since whatever in this game isn't story is plot, but you will once again find yourself solving all sorts of puzzles involving light, kinematics, power and energy, and a paradise. The only real complaint I have is that the 360 degree camera is a little disconcerting at first, especially after the immobile camera of Myst and Riven: The Sequel to Myst. But you get used to it pretty fast and I soon appreciated the full range of motion it gives.

By the way, I think the entire Myst series is very underrated and extremely under-played. I would definitely recommend the entire series to any casual puzzle gamer.
