  • Summary: Myth is arguably the first real-time strategy game to put the player in a true 3D landscape, with an emphasis on tactical battlefield action rather than base construction. Myth also happens to be one of Bungie's most successful pre-Halo releases, and shows off the company's range and ability in genres outside of first-person shooters. A single player mode features an engrossing and enjoyable plot, with you battling the evil and eponymous Fallen Lords, their evil leader, Balor and all manner of undead creatures, but Myth's multiplayer is where it really stands out. Bungie.net's game-matching technology has been much-emulated since, and at Myth's release, was something truly special. Multiple game modes including King of the Hill, Steal the Bacon and even co-op added huge variety to what was an outstanding and standard-setting game - and it still is. If ever an older game deserved another visit, it's Myth, with a huge, loyal and highly motivated following. [Bungie] Collapse

  1. You must learn the best way to attack, what formations to use, where to position your men and when to fight or run. You'll master the mouse and keyboard controls in no time, but mastering the single player game will take time.
  2. Another great feature of Myth is the terrain: it's truly three-dimensional... The level design is excellent, and the different types of terrain require very different strategies.
  3. If you have the system to handle this game, and especially if you have a good 3D board, grab it right now, don't read another word. This is by far the best medieval warfare game I've ever played, and the added bonus that it happens to have a killer interface, a brilliant storyline, and dazzling graphics just adds a few more medals to Myth's already heavily adorned chest.
  4. Myth: The Fallen Lords is a masterpiece in the realtime strategy genre.
  5. Myth is a melee of a good time. [Feb 1998, p.180]
  6. When you combine the excellent multiplayer support, the great graphics, and the dramatic gameplay improvements offered by the 1.1 patch, you get a truly remarkable real-time strategy game.
  7. Although the game is hands-on, all your troops display a remarkable level of intelligence and can generally be relied upon to act on their own in a discerning manner. No more straying into the wilderness, taking on enemy divisions single-handed or walking backwards into a swamp.

I can't believe how good this game is. Even if very old and hard, you will have a great time playing it. Simple, easy to learn, (very) hard to master.
