If you had to pick one platform for Quest of Dungeons, the Switch would probably be it. It highlights the qualities of the Switch concept even if the upgrades in the game are relatively subtle. The system - with the choice of TV or portable play - is therefore a perfect match with the solid turn-based combat and procedurally generated dungeons. As a returning player, besides playing the title on a fancy new device the minor improvements and new content are hard to appreciate, at least when considering the need to double-dip. This version is certainly worth a go if you haven't played it before, however, as this is still an enjoyable game to play.
Quest of Dungeons is a roguelike game that fits perfectly within short gaming sessions and that is quick and simple to get into. While some of the rooms may get a bit repetitive, the game's addictive nature and its combat system are more than enough to keep the players' attention.
It's a simple traditional rogue-like dungeon crawler. I have loved my time with this game. It's simple and fun, though the higher difficulties are almost prohibitively hard. The music loops get pretty annoying after a while. But I would recommend this game, especially if you can get it on sale. It's a great game for the switch! Sort of like baby's first traditional rogue-like.
Quest of Dungeons came out on 3ds using the lower screen for map, spells, and buying/selling. The ui was superb and anno December 2020 it has finally dropped to $1 on 3ds. At the same time it has dropped to $1 on Switch. I bought both.
At its heart it’s a poor man’s clone of umoria but with no collective monster memory, no prolific lichen, no over world shop, no hidden doors, no cursed items, no monsters bashing through doors, no wands rods tunneling no food or light issues. Class system is fixed fighter that only has melee action, wizard that needs to manage his mana, archer that uses unlimited arrows. It is very streamlined and so simple to do it’s a kind of Zen. It’s the best rogue like for handhelds, far worse than the original but what can you do.
Gameplay is very streamlined. You walk over ga
Quest of Dungeons, for many people, will initially live or die upon its looks unfortunately and if you enjoy a challenge that plays very well in handheld mode I encourage you to give the gameplay a look. Underneath the old school pixel graphics is a rewarding and challenging roguelike experience, one that will probably bring you closer to the original Rogue than anything else you’ll play. The RNG (Random Number Generator) Gods are strong with this title, and though they are often quite cruel when things roll on your side it can be a great feeling. What’s great is there is ample room for strategy and success (as well as humiliating failure, granted) as you encounter the biggest challenges in the game. Why settle for your fate when you have an opportunity to change it by being a tricky bastard? Quest of Dungeons has consistently surprised me with its adherence to the core roguelike formula, with all of its randomness, while also maintaining a consistent degree of challenge.
Quest of Dungeons is one of the most enjoyable roguelikes to hit the Switch. It is an easy to play dungeon crawler with an addictive turn-based gameplay that makes you want to go for one more run.
A fine addition to the Nintendo Switch library, delivering an entertaining gaming experience that suits the portable mode of the console. However, its formula feels a little bit dated by now and lacks the variety and the personality to keep the player engaged in the long run.
Quest of Dungeons isn't for everybody, but if you are a fan of tabletop RPGs like Hero Quest then you may want to give this game a chance. There are several different classes to play as so if you are more into tanking than ranged, or magic than healing, etc. this game has you covered. It is turn based as if you are playing a tabletop game, and the game pauses at the start of the player's next move giving a chance to analyze the map and inventory to plan the next move. The price for this game is fair due to the unlimited replay-ability and when the game goes on sale it is a steal.
As simple as it gets, probably any other game does it better then whatever quest of dungeons does, and for 10 dollars it's a rip off since you can get it for 5 dollars on steam.
SummaryQuest of Dungeons is a turn based dungeon crawler game, a roguelike featuring a good old 16-bit retro artistic look. An evil Dark Lord has stolen all the light, so your mission is to enter his lair and defeat him. By playing as either a Warrior, a Wizard, a Assassin or a Shaman you have to traverse dungeons, defeat enemies and loot every...
