In terms of RAGEs story, there is a lot of wasted potential in this otherwise brilliant shooter. The same could be said for the technical side of things, as RAGE undoubtedly looks good, but far from brilliant, "thanks" to its multiplatform-roots. Nevertheless: id's newest IP offers great atmosphere, spot-on gunplay, cool weapons, funny vehicle-combat and solid graphics; that leaves us hoping for Carmack's promised texture-patch.

I wasn't expecting miracles - the word "revolution" hasn't been associated with id Software for a long time. But still I was expecting an 8/10 game and even during E3 it seemed Rage would be just that. Unfortunatelly sometimes things simply don't work that way. Various flaws of the game - beginning with a fairly short single player, ending with technical issues - don't allow me to call it a well made product. I had fun, but that's not enough to praise a game that doesn't belong on a shelf labeled "hit".

The threadbare story is filled with pointless motivations, poorly realised characters and bad dialogue - so cross out 'wanting to know what happens at the end'. The way the game challenges you is by simply sending more of the same at you and hoping you run out of ammo. It doesn't have story, it doesn't have gameplay - so why would you keep playing?

I was very hyped up for this title to be released but all what I received was something i didn't expect would happen. The story is pretty **** especially the ending. However, The game does offer a terrific and amazing graphic, shooting mechanics and AI functionally. I also enjoying the twisted metal like feel when you are cruising through the wasteland killing any bandits that you encounter. So in the long run the game is good but not great as it should of been. I would not prefer you to spend $60 on it but it is worth $40-$50 though. Expand

  2. A buggy, boring, disappointing mess of a game. id Software are really going downhill. The only rage I feel is for buying this game in the first place!

  3. Well, Carmack himself did say "We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games," - should have seen the end result of Rage from miles away without even playing this excuse of a game. I did wait quite some time before giving Rage a shot - and even then after all the bad user reviews present I had to find a friend who purchased Rage first and give it a spin at his home before I would give id my hard earned bucks. Glad I did, because id with Carmack's current mentality isn't getting anymore of my dough. I have been a die hard id Software fan since the days of Classic Doom and I still actually play Classic Doom on a frequent basis (jDoom/Doomsday Engine) so I have (or rather, had) no negative bias towards id and Quake 2 still remains my favorite DM proving grounds despite it being a rather painful experience trying to pull together a group of friends to relive some of Quake 2's glory days. I mean if one is going to take gameplay over graphics then may as well go all the way, right? If you want to play a properly good FPS and don't mind the dated graphics - simply look at id's past portfolio. If you want to play a properly good FPS with a properly modern graphics engine - buy Hard Reset. And until Carmack fixes his botched mentality, all I can say about id Software and any future games they have in stall for us is; Avoid. Expand
