For every reason I play RPGs (big decisions, interesting characters, fun gameplay, immersive exploration), Risen 3 hits every sweet spot.
  2. Aug 12, 2014
Risen 3 could be outstanding, for the world, the fights, the character system are almost made for a first-class role play. But the story does not build tension. It serves its purpose, but remains arbitrary and acts in many places too contrived.

Despite still having a few issues Risen 3: Titan Lords is a vast improvement on Risen 2. The combat could be better but doesn't cripple the game this time, the world is more interesting and easier to get around, and there's tons of stuff to do.

Risen 3: Titan Lords is not the studio's grandest gesture, but the tendrils of this fantasy saga still grab you. The glitches and irritations poke at your patience, but the promise of buried treasure on a distant beach still compels you. Risen 3 has the potential to sweep you away, provided all that driftwood doesn't keep you at shore.

On consoles this is almost unbearable. But also on PC it falls short, even though the open world looks beautiful in most places. You have lots to do, the fighting system is solid, albeit hampered by a bad camera. But in the end it is rather a superficial experience on almost every level.

It’s almost a good game. For some of you that will be enough. It’s a neat little diversion and it’s fun in spurts, and maybe that’s all you are looking for. However, there are many other better RPGs to play out there with better stories, and better systems.
  7. Aug 12, 2014
Bloated in the mission department, threadbare everywhere else, Risen 3: Titan Lords is cobbled together from rehashed material, and the series' many flaws are enhanced a hundredfold in the process.

I hate the beginning, and I love the rest of the game. The first 30 minutes were like a bad dream. It almost felt that developers made that prologue, just because they had to, in last week before release without the whole team. The rest of the game is gorgeous! The dialogues are somewhat interesting, the quests are rather enjoyable, combat system is very challenging and Role Play is at all times high! The aesthetics look amazing!

I was expecting this to be a very bad game since Risen 2 was a total failure for me with it's pirate theme, but since I heard that developers went to the roots, I started looking for that Gothic 2 feeling, and I found it and even more. Adventures, challenges, a lot of death and missteps :) This is the most interesting game in this year so far that got me into the game for a very long time :) Thank you Piranha Bytes for this!

Can't believe the bad reviews! It is a game you really need to give a chance but once you do you will find a really solid game here! The pirate theme here isn't over the top like it was in Risen 2. It has that unpolished gothic feel too it - which I count as a pro! To be honest it probably doesn't deserve a 10 but it definitely doesn't deserve the 0's that these **** are going with. I'd honestly give it an 8! Expand

This game is that what I expected. There is a lot of that things that were the best in Risen and Gothic series. Combat system is dynamic and enjoyable. Game world has been made perfectly. You can decide where your hero will sail on a ship almost at game start. Story is very good and surprising. Risen 3 is one of the best RPG game of this year by me.
    You need to buy it!

Risen and Risen 2 made a child - Risen 3. Old school RPG. Interesting story, good graphics and gameplay will take your time. Enjoy the best RPG of this summer! Expand

I am having a deja vu.

I would have rated Risen 2 a 6/10 so this is a 4/10. If you liked Risen 2 you will get some mileage out of the game
but i hoped for so much more. :( Expand

    So bad... I'm really disappointed.
Voices are really poor, the hero has a deep dark cliché voice, there are no emotions at all...
are horrible too. Very slow, unrealistic...
Took me half an hour to start playing because the game was crashing. Why ? Because i have more than 4 cores in my CPU -_- Had to change that manually and restart the whole computer in order to play.
5 minutes after starting the game, it crashed on the "jump" tutorial. Had to restart 5 times to be able (i don't know how) to pass this point. I think i've a pretty decent computer (everything to ultra by default), but still, the game was slightly laggy (every 2 secs, very small freez, and sound sometimes jumping a bit). Tried to set the game to the lowest graphic settings with no change at all !

Game mechanics and enemies are almost the same than Risen2. You start on an island and meet no less than 9 different type of enemies, one after another... Problem is that you fight all of them exactly the same way. Fights are hard, but not because it's meant to be ! It's because 2 times out of 10, your hit will miss for stupid reasons like not aiming perfectly at the enemy pixels, or terrain elevation.
Still, monsters have no problem hitting you and chaining attacks like pros. And don't get me started on multiple target fights, where you can't even properly choose your target !

Programmers where lazy too. Climbing a ladder ? NP ! Just fade to black and teleport player on top ! Need to climb ? No need for a climbing animation, just use the jump then teleport to the anchor point and let the camera rape your eyes while trying to follow the motion !

I loved Gothic. I Loved Risen so far. But this one is a piece of crap. Poor game play, bad Risen 2 clone, lot of bugs, terrible voice acting and animations... I really hope they'll do something better, but for now, it's a 2.

To me, this game seems like a poor rebrushing of Risen 2. But it's even worse. Risen 2 had some playability, and wasn't really that bad. It just wasn't as good as Risen 1.

But this one, oh boy, where do I start?

First off, i can't believe they went through with this cheap, clichéed voice acting. It sounds like something out of a poor porn-movie. And i am not even joking.

Just the voice acting alone makes me want to turn the game off - and i have done so every time now.
I am directly embarrassed every time characters in this game opens their mouth to speak.
It's like they say the most obvious, silly things all the time. Are they trying to annoy me?

The inventory system seems to be ported straight out of Risen 2. It's kind of cluttered and messy compared to Risen 1.

Combat feels clumsy, and animations seem poor. Just try to jump, and see how it slows down and floats like you somehow slow down time while mid-air.

Textures seem poorly done, as you can often see "smeared" and warped textures all over. And the resolution seem to be low and badly applied many places.
    Including characters.

This was really bad, and I am very certain i won't even finish this game.
Sadly, as i had looked forward to this one.

I think the main problem is that they try to hard to please us, and just end up halfways on so many points, that the overall presentation of the game is quite low.

I can't believe they expect to sell me this in 2014. And i am not really being cruel here.

It just seems very bad and rushed. Maybe they try to hard to please critics, and end up working too hard in the wrong places...

Massive failure in my eyes. It's quite a shame for the Risen series, really.

Please don't try again. Just make something else, you are killing Risen.
