From the random clicking and solving the first strains by mistake, up to the most complex efforts of deliberate scheming through the last sequences, Splice can make someone feel stupid and genius, at the same time… [August 2012]

Small casual game with potential to become the logical game of the year. Its only disadvantage is in its extreme shortness. [Issue#220]

A puzzler that remains short of an epiphany. [Sept 2012, p.85]

Concept wise, Splice is an interesting title to look at. It's both accessible and painfully difficult. The satisfaction you will feel if you overcome a difficult puzzle, is worth mentioning though. Such a shame it is that Splice fails to become more than a one-trick-pony. If you've seen one of the puzzles, you've basically seen them all.

  1. If you like puzzles then you will love this game. The music is fantastic and the backgrounds are a relaxing color which is a nice change after a day of stressful shooter games. With each new Sequence (level) you are given a new type of gene that has a unique ability you must use to solve the strands and there are multiple ways to solve each strand. Expand

If you like puzzle games it is very good bet that you will like this one. Difficulty is increasing somewhat steeply i would say and playing is quite rewarding. Graphic is very simplistic but design of menus and level has some really nice element to it. Soundtrack is also great. Expand
  3. An interesting concept. I haven't seen anything like this. Once I started playing this game, I was hooked up with it immediately. Some of the puzzles are difficult enough to challenge your brains. I would recommend this game to any puzzle game lovers. Unfortunately the game is rather short. I finished the game in about 20 hrs including Angelic awards (which are awarded when you solve the puzzles by the best possible solution). This is very short compared with many other puzzle games around. I wish that they will expand the game by DLCs. Expand

Even if puzzle games are your favourite pastime, the originality of Splice will surprise you. The thoughtprocess revolves around basic counting and pattern analysis, but it feels like play, rather than homework, throughout the campaign. The soundtrack is a soothing but slightly dramatic virtual piano score. Each puzzle is short, but might take anywhere from a minute to a quarter of an hour, depending on your genius. There are dozens of puzzles. The standard campaign took me a couple of hours. A stylish, clever game that I would recommend to anyone looking for a new puzzle challenge. I'd give it 7 or 8 points, where 8 is because there's nothing quite like it, and 7 is because the same type of puzzle fills up the entire game. Since user scores on Metacritic are generally inflated, I want to go against that trend and give 7/10 for this game. But at 5-10$, I think Cipher Prime Studios deserve your purchase. Expand
