Sundered takes the indie, Metroidvania genre to new heights while showing just how good these types of experiences can be. Great gameplay could have carried this game far enough, but Thunder Lotus once again went for hand drawn art and the result is truly remarkable.

If you’re looking for a Metroidvania-style slash-fest that won’t make your eyes weary, you’ve gotta check out Sundered.

Sundered is a great metroid-vania. It doesn´t innovate a classic gameplay formula, but with its visual, atmosphere and technical quality, it can catch and hold you. [Issue#277]

With its smooth combat, rewarding exploration, and pulse-pounding battles, Sundered is worth a look from fans of Metroid and Castlevania. Though technical issues muddled my enjoyment and the punishing difficulty can lead to fits of frustration, Sundered brings an exciting and noteworthy experience to a crowded genre.

Sundered is beautiful, tense, and frustrating enough to make you want to throw your controller. If you can make your way through it’s overwhelming combat encounters, you’ll find a platformer that’s well worth the madness.

Solid mix of Metroidvania and roguelike with epic boss battles, but often very conservative and sometimes slow-moving.

A game with interesting ideas that is let down by frustrating, repetitive gameplay.

    Its gorgeous, fluid and enchanting.
Once you cross the first hour, you are hocked for at least one playthrough. Fun combat, level generation and treasure hunting keeps it always fresh.
Ahh and the cannon... omg.. best BFG ever. Thank you Thunderlotus.
One minus is the long loading, but that’s nothing.

When I read that the levels where going to be procedurally created I was definitely skeptical but honestly it adds more of a challenge. The waves of baddies that storm onto to screen and attack you can get intense, but it keeps the platforming interesting. I have only played a few hours and in those hours I was put my gaming skills to the test, I am playing on normal and it is pretty brutal. The only way to upgrade your skills via skill tree is to collect orbs from dead baddies and once you die you can spend those orbs to upgrade your skills. So in a way you get rewarded for dieing because you become stronger. Only thing missing is a heavy metal sound track. All in all pretty fun game, you should check it out. Im playing on PC runs really smooth. Expand

You don't clear outThis is not a metroidvania game, it just has the map structure of one. The combat is more like a fly swatting simulator. You don't clear out areas like you would in a proper metroidvania. Instead, random hordes of baddies swarm you and you have to swat them down in bunches. So all the tactical choices a real metroidvania game has you making about beating enemies who are occupying platforms go straight out the window. Sundered enemies flock in from any direction and barely care about level layout. I was so excited for this game from the trailers, but this is a deal breaker for me. The art is gorgeous, but it's wasted on these lazy mechanics. Expand
