If you feel nostalgia for classic arcade adventure games from the Nineties like Flashback and Another World, you should not miss this one. But be aware of it’s unforgiving level design.
The Way is almost exclusively aimed at those gamers who remembers fondly Another World and Flashback. It is almost a step-by-step recreation of those games, in terms of aesthetics and gameplay mechanics, filled with diverse environmental puzzles, lethal one-hit dangers and, of course, the obligatory kind-of-unresponsive jumping mechanics.
Love the world-building in this one. It's so in the back. But gives you absolutely everything that's important for this story and absolutely enough info so you can "feel" this world enough to make it real.
Also, the music is simply great. Graphics as well.
The first half was easy. The second was hard/frustrating. Also, polish creators definitely tried to make most moments of gameplay kind of "unique". Well, they mostly succeeded. Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse (a little too frustrating).
I will always (mostly) forget flaws in a game when it clearly has so much heart and competence put into the story. Like when you have a real story. I will take a small story like this any day over a "big", "epic", hollow, by the numbers validated by a political committee, production.
I love this simple yet gripping, atmospheric, mysterious sci-fi story about a lonely journey into the unknown to rescue the woman you love... After she died...
The Way has a lot going for it: the world is interesting, the puzzles are testing, and it has a wonderful charm. The movement is precise enough to make the platforming work, and controlling the powers is never an effort. Worth a punt if you’re looking for something a little retro this summer.
The Way is a fun adventure, filled with difficult-but-fair puzzles and wonderful art direction, but often marred by clumsy control issues and poor checkpointing, made especially worse in a game filled with long backtracking segments.
This type of game is one from a bygone era, and although The Way does its best to bring it back from the past, there are just too many problems to make it a good modern game.
If you've played another world you have to play The Way. If not - you have to play too. This 2d adventure-puzzle-platformer game have all what you need. It's not perfect - sometimes it's too easy, sometimes too hard- but it's still good game.
I love this game and i found it very interesting and varied. If you like games in 2D like Another World but with more puzzles and less action this game is for you. Highly recommended.
PROS: Ambient + Background music + Gadgets + Varied game (many and varied tasks) + Clever puzzles + etc
CONS: the Abyss puzzle is a pain + Sometimes it's try and die, try and die...
Все просто - если вам понравился Another World - вам понравится и эта игра. Если не понравился Another World - значит, скорее всего, не понравится. Если вы не знаете, что такое Another world/ вы не родились еще в тот момент.. - рискните)
A clumsily designed and unforgiving Flashback clone filled with pseudo-intellectual twaddle imposing the notion that long term relationships can't work. There's nothing more to say than that, that sums it up. That's what you'd get.
SummaryJourney to another planet and discover its secrets in order to bring your loved one back to life. Experience an adventure, inspired by old school classics like Another World, Heart of Darkness and Flashback.
