• Summary: Ember is the essence of magic and the keystone of alchemy; it lures the restless with promises of power and riches. Miners burrowed deep beneath the dirt streets of Torchlight, discovering veins of the ore richer than any found in living memory- but they were not the first to covet these mines. The miners from Torchlight broke through into the buried past, a dangerous labyrinth of caverns and ruined civilizations, twisted creatures and the bones of those who came before. Evil bubbles up from the depths and threatens to overrun Torchlight as it has so many others. The heart of a villain has infused the Ember, and his darkness seeps through the veins. You may not have heard of it, but you owe it to yourself to play this game.

Even without multiplayer, Torchlight makes for a remarkably entertaining 10 to 15 hours, with plenty more custom content to come thanks to the powerful game editor TorchED, which you can download free of charge. Even if you aren't waiting impatiently for Diablo III, Torchlight's a great value at a mere $20.
  3. You can't deny the fact: Torchlight is a Diablo clone to the backbone. It lacks imagination and fresh ideas, but it's a clone done well, with extra care for people's time and nerves. And that's worth a lot.

  1. Awesome game! Totally consuming and fun. $15 on STEAM! Unbelievable value for so great of a game. Anxiously awaiting Torchlight 2 very soon with Co-op play! Expand

A LOT like Diablo, even going so far as to use some of the same musical scores and SFX. Quite addictive for a while but feels very samey. I did enjoy playing it but don't know if I'd ever go back to it or even purchase a sequel. Expand

The game is an extremely uninspired clone of Diablo. The classes are almost identical to those of the first Diablo. There are a small number of innovations that make it a little less tedious than other games of the genre, but you'll wonder why you're spending $20 on the game when you could get Diablo 1 and 2 with their expansions for the same price. This game would have been great 10 years ago, but today it's simply a stale ripoff of a formula that's been done at least a dozen times before. While you may find your first playthrough as enjoyable as any other game in the genre, the lack of multiplayer or any uniqueness to the three basic classes prevents it from having any replay value. You're just killing the same old mobs in the same old way you've been doing for 15 years since the first Diablo was released, with no depth, very little originality, and no replayability. Expand
