The game gains points because of its visuals and sound but the lack of any new innovations will keep this title from gaining any momentum beyond the TRON fan base. I am scoring this game as a fan of the TRON universe, for individuals not yet a fan you can take off at least 5 points from the score.
The gameplay is fairly basic and somewhat repetitive, but with patience, you'll probably be drawn into the Grid and find enjoyment from derezzing programs from start to conclusion.
really enjoyable and perfect at first but
i realized i have not went back to it in 2 years
and anons death was quite non redeeming
good arena mode though
bumped from a 5 to a 9 because very redeeming derez system, and each player is anon
in the game, so as much as it was non redeeming, the amount of anons was redeeming
plus 4
Short and simple if you like Tron you'll like this game. The campaign is decent, its telling you the story that leads up to the Tron:Legacy movie. Where the game really gets addicting when when you jump into the on-line matches. Definitely worth checking out despite what the critics have said.
I was happy to see that Propaganda at least put forward a decent effort and with a bigger budget and more development time, they might have been able to smooth out the game's edges and turn in something that could have been less of a "fans only" proposition and more of a mainstream contender.
A challenge for all the wrong reasons, Tron: Evolution is a frustrating shell of a game, and exactly the sort of just-get-it-out-the-door festiveware that the pre-recession videogame market looked to have left behind. [Issue#104, p.109]
Tron: Evolution is an enjoyable game from start to finish.
Story: 9/10
Evolution's story is a great way to bridge the gap between Tron 1 and Legacy. You play as Anon, a system monitor recently uploaded by Kevin Flynn, in order to eliminate any serious threat encountered in the grid.
You'll fight infected programs, and encounter soldiers that are part of Clu 2's regime, all very entertaining to combat and destroy. Fights with the game's main antagonist, Abraxas, can be fun but repetitive at the same time. The game's final act is a moment to be treasured, as it is the best part of the game.
Gameplay: 8/10
Simple combat controls, easy to understand and use. During the course of the game, you unlock four types of combat: Stasis, Bomb, Corruption, and Heavy. All of these can be used to devastating effect on your enemies. Movement controls are a mix of Prince of Persia gameplay and parkour, and although it looks cool, it can sometimes cause the camera to go crazy, impairing your ablity to correctly see your character, leading to some unfair deaths. Vehicle sections, although short, are cool, especially parts with a light cycle.
Multiplayer: 8/10
Multiplayer for Evolution is fast paced; You must be able to react quickly, or you will die. A lot. Light cycle maps are arguably the most fun, as combat on these maps is very fast and will garner you many kills in a very short period of time. Although mutiplayer is fun, I highly suggest you play the campaign and level up first, because you are likely to get killed by a level 50 in most matches you play.
Overall: 8/10
Tron Evolution is a great way to bridge the gap between the first and second films. This game will attract fans and non-fans alike with its flashy presentation, amazing graphics, and stellar gameplay. The tragedy here is that a lot of people don't appreciate this interactive work of art, as Disney Interactive nailed it. GameInformer, you have been officially derezzed.
A solid action game made up of borrowed parts, some genuinely good and new ideas, and some design flaws. It ultimately isn't able to make it's borrowed elements as good as the games it took them from, but ultimately I can't criticize the game too much. It's a solid effort and more enjoyable than most movie tie-in, licensed games even with it's flaws.
The combat is pretty entertaining. It's no Bayonetta in terms of mechanics and execution. The controls are a touch stiff and the lock on mechanics aren't always going to let you hit what you want in the larger battles. However things like enemies having certain weaknesses add more depth to the experience, and I really enjoyed how the game's parkour elements tie into the fights. Maneuvering over certain objects or running across certain walls are some of the only ways to refill your health and energy needed to pull off stronger attacks in the middle of combat. Tank and light cycle sections are there to add some variety to the mix.
There's a platforming element to the game that's very similar to the Prince of Persia series. This is where the game has it's biggest flaws. Controls are unbelievably stiff in these sections. The more ambitious moments of the game's platforming can be quite frustrating as you careen off a ledge through little fault of your own. There are moments of pure Prince of Persia bliss that can lead to cool looking moments once you get the hang of the controls. Even when you do though there are still going to be times where you just get screwed by the controls. The overly lengthy respawn cutscene does nothing to alleviate that irritation. It's only a few seconds, but that's still way too long. We live in a time where instant respawns are a must.
There's a multiplayer component to the experience that's still surprisingly active. The experience is most definitely TRON. You can turn into a light cycle at will and the combat is overall solid. It's not groundbreaking in any way, but may still bring back the TRON faithful for repeat matches.
As far as the presentation side of things go, like most of the game, it's decent, but could be better. The soundtrack is pretty great. Fits the world perfectly. The graphics capture the look of the TRON universe perfectly, but stiff animations are noticeable. Look to closely and you can see that it's pretty dated graphically. The story that bridges the gap between the two films doesn't do anything really consequential to the overall story of the universe, but still ties into things nicely. The returning Olivia Wilde playing her character is much appreciated.
Perhaps with a bigger budget and more polish this could have been TRON's Arkham Asylum. The potential is here, but the refinement isn't. Things like dated design and control issues bring down the experience. Yet, the game's core ideas are good and make it pretty darn fun even in the face of some frustrations. It's also nice to see TRON get some solid video game representation. The universe is in desperate need of expansion.
As it stands it's a solid action game that's worth a look for TRON fans. Maybe that look should only be in the form a rental, but it's worth the look nonetheless. The TRON fan in me was delighted to play a TRON game of this kind. No, I wasn't blown away by it and it could have used some more work. In this genre though you can do much worse. Plus it has that TRON setting going for it.
7.5/10
Tron: Evolution is a action, platformer and has a level up system like most good RPGs, but is it a good game? First of all, only if you enjoy platforming! If you hate platformers turn back now. If you love platforming and heart pounding light cycle chases then this is the game for you. It has its anoying "I thought that the wall was climbable but then I fell and died" moments but it's still a good platformer. The combat is intense as you use different disks that you get by leveling up to defeat you foes and each enemy has a weakness to a certain disk. Buy the game used at a good price and you won't feel ripped off when you play this. It's a great game and you should play it if you like TRON, now!
Game for $15 ,not worth 55 , trust me. Running and jumping and nothing more. Characters not interesting , game more for kids . Maybe ''not my type'' of game but.......
