  • Summary: Turok is an epic, story-driven first-person shooter set on a dark, mysterious planet in the future. Players take on the role of Joseph Turok, a former black ops commando, now part of an elite special forces squad, known as Whiskey Company, which is on a mission to take down a war criminal – Turok’s former mentor, Roland Kane. Set on a planet inhabited by Kane and his Mendel-Gruman Corporation soldiers, Turok must use his elite military training to elude Kane’s well-trained army and the ravenous, unpredictable dinosaurs, huge insects and other massive creatures that populate the environment. 1. A good start that quickly falls off into a discombobulated mess of the story’s true purpose but is successful in constantly delivering hordes of baddies to tear apart.
  2. Ultimately, Turok is the kind of game which you either like very much, or you hate and uninstall it after the first 10 minutes.
  3. 70
There's no doubt that Turok can be fun, but ultimately, the feeling of satisfaction that comes with slitting a raptor's throat or pulling off a headshot with your bow is lost in the shuffle of swarming enemies, less than stellar visuals and a story that disappears.

Turok is a decent game with obvious flaws. Its first steps as a reborn franchise are decent ones, though it's difficult to recommend over so many other titles on the PC market.
  5. It's terribly inconsistent and feels like a shooter from the last century. [Aug 2008, p.74]
  6. Dinosaurs rescue an otherwise underwhelming shooter.
  7. Mediocre and dismally uninspired. [July 2008, p.88]

A very average FPS. The graphics are a bit dated by today's standards (foliage especially) but the game play is fun and fast paced. Though the checkpoint save method can be a pain and the enemy AI is as dumb as they come, the "3 Star" action film feel and ability to knife dinosaurs more than makes up for it.

Turok is old enough now that it can be had for a few dollars, and it's well worth playing at that price range. Set your expectations right and this title can offer some really good times.

This game's only real redeeming factor is, obviously, DINOSAURS. The 'characters' are entirely forgettable, the 'story' is a boring rip-off, the graphics are unimpressive, and the gameplay is unimpressive. I did like that there was a decent diversity of weapons, many with alternate fire modes, but that's hardly sufficient to carry a game. It is fun to fight dinosaurs--especially when it comes to stabbing raptors in the face or slitting the throats of compys--but unfortunately you spend all too much time listening to boring 'characters' talk and fighting human mercenaries with bad AI. Definitely worth a play-through, so long as you're not a wanker that doesn't like dinosaurs, but be prepared for some frustration along the way. Expand

It's a fun and enjoyable game in the first couple of maps, then it look like any other FPS, with lame AI's and less of what makes the genre great, killing dinosaurs. I find the knifekill/scenematics good at first, but lame after a while. The stealth system is lame too, you can sneak around and make silent kill's.... In the beginning, then the AI notice you no matter what you do.
If a new Turok game were to be released, I would say more dinosaurs, knife and bow, and less soldiers that you can fight in any other game.

Killing dinosaurs sounds great. When you kill them with knife looks awesome 1st time and 2nd time, but 100. time too boring, scripted knife kills in third person view is sucks. The checkpoint system very bad, the AI is cheating, very hard to kill them. The graphics are not good. The game is linear. Expand
