  • Summary: Verdun is a squad based multiplayer first person shooter set in the first world war. Inspired by the infamous battle of Verdun in 1916 players are able to take part in never seen before WWI action. Made by 3 indie developers from BlackMill and M2H.

Much like the conflict that the game shares its namesake with, Verdun is a ferocious and tense multiplayer shooter the likes of which we haven’t seen in a long time.

A forgotten yet interesting setting, World War I receives its first full-fledged realistic FPS with Verdun, a solid but perhaps limited game that recreates trench warfare nicely but falls short in some content aspects. Definitely worth a try for the historical game enthusiasts.

It's mostly historically accurate, and comes with a realistic feeling. That sets it apart from the average military shooter, and it might serve as an interesting alternative for Red Orchestra 2 fans. When it comes to game modes, it falls short, but that might be improved in the near future.

Verdun is a brilliant FPS made of mud, trenches and death. It's not perfect but it's still evolving and has a lot of potential.

Verdun is a game that should appeal to any FPS fans looking for something different.

The Dutch Verdun offers a great representation of the First World War. You really feel like you are in the middle of the war, having to fight for your life. But the framerate issues, the limited number of maps and the progression system with its ups and downs cause so much frustration throughout the game, that it is really hard to stay focused on the war instead of the technical issues of the game.

Verdun somewhat succeeds in its lavish goal, but its road to glory is lengthy still. Until then, it sits on the edge of the line, waiting for the rallying cry.

When I played that first release I feared the worst.
But I have to admit that Blackmill/M2H have proven me completely wrong.

I absolutely love what they have done with the game!
No other shooter can give me this same feeling, Insurgency gets close.
The game is a little rough around the edges, but you have to forgive small indie devs without their multi-million funds.
What it lacks in polish, gets made up with the gameplay.

Death animations look a bit weird for now, and the graphics are average thus far. It's obviously a game that is still in full development.

But for a beta, it's amazing! Completely different experience from COD. The trench battles are intense and team-based gameplay is ESSENTIAL to victory. This is already the best WW1 FPS experience I've ever played, and it's getting better all the time. It has great ideas, a small but dedicated (and lovely) playerbase, and I could not recommend this more. Yes, it has flaws, but it's a goddamn beta! If it's this good now, I can't wait for the finished version.

Some technical optimization is still to be done.

I got fps issues in the game after some update despite the fact that the graphics look horrible. The graphics are just horrenderously bad as if my graphics card is throwing up, the character design looks depressing and the animations are terrible and make you laugh out. The sound effects are mediocore, the map design looks bland and uninspired. The game is utterly generic and the playerbase is laughably tiny. I know it's still in beta but i'm pretty sure that almost nothing will change in the future, it will even get worse. I'm done with this garbage. Expand
