  • Summary: Verdun is a squad based multiplayer first person shooter set in the first world war. Inspired by the infamous battle of Verdun in 1916 players are able to take part in never seen before WWI action. Made by 3 indie developers from BlackMill and M2H.

Much like the conflict that the game shares its namesake with, Verdun is a ferocious and tense multiplayer shooter the likes of which we haven’t seen in a long time.

A forgotten yet interesting setting, World War I receives its first full-fledged realistic FPS with Verdun, a solid but perhaps limited game that recreates trench warfare nicely but falls short in some content aspects. Definitely worth a try for the historical game enthusiasts.

Verdun is a brilliant FPS made of mud, trenches and death. It's not perfect but it's still evolving and has a lot of potential.

The Dutch Verdun offers a great representation of the First World War. You really feel like you are in the middle of the war, having to fight for your life. But the framerate issues, the limited number of maps and the progression system with its ups and downs cause so much frustration throughout the game, that it is really hard to stay focused on the war instead of the technical issues of the game.

Verdun is a specific shooter, made for gamers that appreciate more authentic and realistic combat. Call of Duty crowd will be taken aback by the not very dynamic nature of combat, but the game can still provide a lot of thrills.

It is possible that Verdun will grow its own collection of free DLCs as it happened with Red Orchestra 2 and Insurgency. Blackmill Games has already promised to add flamethrowers, mortars, body armor, new maps, including the Eastern Front and more… However, right now this game is for military history buffs only.

Verdun somewhat succeeds in its lavish goal, but its road to glory is lengthy still. Until then, it sits on the edge of the line, waiting for the rallying cry.

I have accompanied this game since christmas 2013 and it's wonderful to see the evolution of a truly unique game.
Right now after the release from early access the player count is rising and rising and it's just a whole lot of fun to play in this very first WW1 FPS.

Death animations look a bit weird for now, and the graphics are average thus far. It's obviously a game that is still in full development.

But for a beta, it's amazing! Completely different experience from COD. The trench battles are intense and team-based gameplay is ESSENTIAL to victory. This is already the best WW1 FPS experience I've ever played, and it's getting better all the time. It has great ideas, a small but dedicated (and lovely) playerbase, and I could not recommend this more. Yes, it has flaws, but it's a goddamn beta! If it's this good now, I can't wait for the finished version.

A mix of a Battlefield Harcore Bolt Action Only Server, infantry ARMA and Red Orchestra. One hit and you are down. The suspense while going over to top or sticking your head out to shoot is amazing.
Some technical optimization is still to be done.

It was a brutal conflict fought in mud, crater shells and trenches complete with poison gas.

If you're looking for a WWI version of CoD or Battlefield, forget it. This game requires some patience and understanding that you're not going to get shot 10 times before you die. One bullet = death, very much like Insurgency. There's a bit of a learning curve to the game, but give it a couple of hours and you'll have the confidence to take on the Squad Leader role.

It's not a perfect game, but it's damned entertaining and for anyone who is looking for a game that is as much a military simulation as it is a game, you'll enjoy it.
