  1. Out of nowhere, BloodRayne 2 ranks among PS2's best hack-n-slash titles. [Dec 2004, p.124]
  2. It’s not groundbreaking, but the intense action and decent mission structure will allow you to shut your brain off and have a great time.
  3. A very solid action game. The game’s gameplay is good enough and it is just oozing with production value.
  4. My one bit of constructive criticism is to suggest that the developer have the team that worked on the CG stuff do all the movies for the next game while they concentrate fully on making Rayne’s next adventure even more of a kick ass gaming experience.
  5. It’s not too hard, and it’s not too boring which equates to a fairly good game. But because of the nature of its design it also isn’t very replayable as there is little to no reason to go back and do it all again.

Thanks to how the harpoon has been integrated into the extensive environmental interaction, and the superior visuals, and more varied gameplay, BloodRayne 2 stands above the original.
  7. While this sequel does succeed in proving Rayne is more than a pretty face, a few more tweaks are needed before her playtime prowess matches her dark mystique. [Nov 2004, p.147]
  8. One of the few things that can be said about BloodRayne 2 is that it’s a nice looking title. The character model for Rayne looks extremely detailed, as do the character models for some of the main enemies.
  9. A decent action game with a lot of nifty gameplay twists thrown in for good measure. While we wish BloodRayne moved a bit better than she does, no one can argue that she brings a sexy darkness to an action game (ahem) dripping with personality.
  10. A total guilty pleasure, but a pleasure nonetheless. [Holiday 2004, p.94]
  11. While playing B2 on PS2 makes you appreciate the Xbox version all the more, by PS2 standards, TR has done a great job of cramming it into the PS2 shell. [Dec 2004, p.81]
  12. Isn’t a great game, but it’s a lot of fun. Look at it as the popcorn movie of the game world, it’s really pretty, but only skin (or polygon?) deep.
  13. Provides a viscerally enjoyable experience pretty much from beginning to end. The game certainly has its blemishes, and it's definitely not the deepest or headiest action title you'll ever experience, but underneath those problems is a stylish and gory action game with enough kills and thrills to keep you entertained.
  14. Had a lot of potential but didn't do enough with it. They focused a little too much on Rayne's abilities and not enough on trying to make the game more difficult, and more challenging.
  15. Everything the original should have been two years ago but wasn’t: intense, gritty, ultra-violent, stylish and a lot of fun to play through... ONCE!

For a lot of players, the excellent graphics and high levels of violence and sex appeal will be more than enough to keep Bloodrayne 2 spinning. It's really a shame that the A.I. is so daft, and even with all the acrobatics, the very linear levels don't truly captivate.
  17. As great as it is to be sliding down a banister firing off both guns before holding out your blades to slice into two anyone unlucky enough to be standing near the bottom as you pass, the sloppy controls and quirks in the design do prevent BR2 from being anything more than a reasonably-decent third-person action-slasher.
  18. Qualifies fine and well as a Barbie for boys, but as an action game it is dull and mediocre, and sinks into the oblivion where it belongs. Pretty graphics, though. [May. 05]

Despite Rayne’s new abilities, you’re still doing pretty much the same thing as before—slashing up wimpy guys, defeating bosses, and then doing it all over again after the next save point. (Even worse, the old camera problems are still there—you’ll get blindsided by enemies all the time simply because you had no advance warning of their presence.)
  20. Sex and violence are the stars, but clever, well-delivered dialogue carries an entertaining vampire apocalypse plot well above current game standards. [Holiday 2004, p.106]
  21. The game is a showcase for the lead character and not an inspired one at that.
  22. 60
The attempt to add depth to the game hasn’t really succeeded, but the combat still feels fun.
  23. While other games have moved onwards and upwards ("Ratchet & Clank", "Jak" etc), Miss Rayne is treading water.
  24. This is a lazy, by-the-numbers sequel to a game that didn't exactly grab us by the throat first time around. Ladling on the gore and heaping on the sex can't disguise how average BloodRayne 2 really is.
  25. Forgoes the spunk of its predecessor in a vain attempt to update and build a franchise, and brings mediocrity to an all time record by managing to be absolutely average in every aspect except plot—where it manages to be different and be dismal.

It feels like a one-night brainstorming session came up with a whole bunch of random ideas thrown in a pot and clumsily stirred. There might be a good game in here somewhere, but it needs to cook a lot longer.

I find this game to be a lot of fun. Gore and sexuality through the roof, and blood, blood, blood, blood, blood. The combat is more refined than it was in the first one and the graphics are a huge step in the right direction. The cheat codes spice things up, and this is just a fun hack-n-slash title to pick up and play every now and again. It's campy, it's gory, it's sexy, and it's very enjoyable. Full Review »

One of my favorite games. It's fun to go back and play it every now and then for the over the top gore and fun combos. I guess I have a crush on Rayne also lol. Full Review »

From one who once thought the GTA series were the best ps2 games of all time, Bloodrayne2 blows them away. Watching her feed is so erotic! But there's so much more to this game than that. Full Review »
