  1. This is a markedly better game than "Call of Duty 2: Big Red One" and the finest World War II gameplay on the current-generation consoles.
  2. COD 3 pulls out all the stops to put you as close up to the action as possible, even allowing up to 24 players to experience full-on war in the online mode.
  3. The action is unbelievably intense and the historical material is researched and presented in a way that borders on being educational.

Luckily for you, Call of Duty 3 for PS2 is actually very similiar to its next-gen sibling - and, in some ways, it's even better. [Feb. 2007, p.80]

The most atmospheric and intense WW2 shooter we've played, hampered only by linear warzones and poor mini-games. [Christmas 2006, p.95]
  6. The visuals are very well done and the sound is simply incredible, especially with the score it has.
  7. So if you're looking for an all-out melee, then Call of Duty 3 is your game. If you want something that's somewhat stealth mission-based, then you might want to give "SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs: Combined Assault" a whirl.

Having said this, this game does have weaker gameplay than the later installations, and the AI is poorly developed, leaving plenty that could have been improved upon. Expand

Call of Duty 3 was the first time Treyarch temporarily took the reigns of the Call of Duty franchise, only to deliver a very forgettable game. This is not a bad game, far from it, it's just very bland and forgettable, and the multiplayer is just a failed Battlefield clone. Expand

I haven't played the 360 or normal xbox version of COD 3 but as far as what I can tell from the PS2 version this series has moved on. The action can be pretty intense at time but the there really isn't much strategy and you can basically run and gun throughout the game without much trouble. The story is basic stuff but I thought the American portion was easily the best part. As a whole the game isn't terrible but it feels terribly mediocore in so many ways compared to other iterations. The graphics are a mess and while the framerate stays pretty steady the textures are blurry and repetive and the character models repeated over and over. The battles themselves just don't feel very large scale and the level design is pretty simplistic. The game can be fun for a little while but it just gets old and you realize you've done this all before and if you've played the 360 version well playing this game is very difficult. So maybe this game is worth a rental but it's just more of the same. Expand
