I really liked the game, but I would have liked it more if both companies were equally balanced. What I mean is Capcom gets more glory then SNK and Capcom is heard more often then SNK, don't get me wrong, I know that Capcom made this game, but SNK allowed their charecters to be molded in the way of Capcom's choosing, SNK at least needs the same amount of attention as Capcom. Maybe SNK may not be as popular as the Capcom games, but what about the hard core SNK players [like me] who like King of Fighters better then Street Fighter? I will get off that subject and move on to the next one: Stages, simply put, there aren't enough stages in this game, I mean how many stages are there, 10? Considering that there are over 44 charecters, 10 stages doesn't go well with so huge a lineup. One point I will compliment is the Color Edit mode where you can change absolutely everything about any charecter and make him or her any color you want, the downside: it's too difficult and sometimes that makes you change something about someone you don't want changed. Also about special moves, I think since Capcom made the game they could have made some of the charecters moves more like the Capcom fighter's moves like Terry's down back down forward punch for Power Geyser could be changed to down forward down forward punch so it can be more in synch with the street fighter's move lists. Although I am glad they gave Terry a new finisher move called Buster Wolf it is cooler then his old finisher from King of Fighters 99 move done the same way. Also, where is Andy Bogard? Is he unlockable? I have only played it once and if Terry and Joe are in this game, where is Andy? Expand

It's the best 2D fighter on the PS2. But it has a few flaws, nothing major though.

if your not into 2d fighting games, this one won't get you into them. Every character is practically the same, but there is about 44 of them. Capcom and SNK bring out a good fight, but it won't last long until your putting your controller down and moving on.

This game was bad. Worse than playing an original Nintendo game. Really no improvement. Very big disappointment.

It's a bit of a Capcom cash grab, but still... fans of Street Fighter and all the SNK 2D fighters will certainly find a lot to like about it.

  1. The most beautifully balanced, well-crafted 2D beat-'em-up to grace God's fair Earth.
  2. I love the color edit and backgrounds, and the character list can't be beat. [Dec 2001, p.95]

A very fine 2D fighter...The only disadvantage to its arrival on PS2 is the inevitable difficulty caused by the PS2 controller, and with luck that will be remedied by a decent fighting solution soon.
