  • Summary: (Colin McRae Rally 3 isn't just about cars and tracks; it's about giving gamers the professional rally driver experience. The game makes a massive leap in terms of playability, motor sport detail and rich visuals; above all it delivers a game that captures every drop of sweat, the split-second decision and the teamwork that goes into actually being Colin McRae. Capturing the emotions and consequences of being a professional rally champion, it takes the gaming experience to the limit as the player attempts to become the planet's greatest rally driver. As Colin McRae, get behind the wheel of his internationally famous Ford Focus PS WRC with co-driver Nicky Grist and set the course alight as you race to become champion. [Codemasters] Expand

  1. The game IS gorgeous. The graphics are beautiful the sound effects are spectacular, and the overall presentation is extremely stylish. [May 2003, p.92]

The feel of the driving is what earned the McRae series its reputation, and the controls remain impeccable in this PS2 edition.
  3. Everything you could have wished for and more.
  4. A very good rally racer. It looks good and plays even better. For those interested in this style of racing, this title is one worth looking into.
  5. A good game hindered by lack of options and other cars to drive in the Championship mode.
  6. If Codies opened up the format and provided more variety in the Championship mode, it would be a king. [May 2003, p.68]
  7. Due to its paltry length and lack of decent multiplayer options, I can’t wholeheartedly recommend this game. It is, however, a solid offering.

Exellent detail in the cars and scenery will keep you staring at it for days. Everything said about bad handling is rubbish, it's called REALISTIC! I wonder if the people who comment on the bad handling have ever actually driven. Expand

Best rally sim ever....even better than the rallying area on GT3. Its all bollocks about the cars on it handling realistically...on the tarmac races there close to perfect but on the rallying part they dont slide or skid how a real car would. Where as CMR3 is perfect. Collapse

Apart from the fact that you have to be Colin Mcrae in championship mode, this game has it all. I can't stop playing it.

It's OK but WRC2 is much better.

Alright, but the lack of cars and modes screw this up. You can only be the ford focus which SUCKS and the only other mode is single rally. (By the way, GT3 rally is not as fun as proper rally sims) Expand

Compare driving the cars in CMR3 to the rally cars in GT3, and see which game feels realistic - Gran Turismo wins hands down! The cars in CMR3 have no apparent mass and turn in very strange ways. There really is very little feeling of the cars' physics, and the views are a let down - it is very hard to place the wings (fenders) in relation to the terrain when you choose any of the "inside-looking-out" view modes. To summarise, this game was a BIG disappointment! Expand
