The addition of an online component comes as a welcome twist to the series, even if the current state of the "virtual" arcade is somewhat sparse.
  2. The best console version released in North America. It's got everything that you love plus more challenges, a dance editor and a number of extras that DDR enthusiasts will go crazy for. Unlockables are plentiful and are not easily opened.

A two-player online option is new for the PS2, but otherwise, this is business as usual for the tecno dancers. [Nov 2005, p.151]
  4. This latest iteration is mainly recommended for hardcore DDR fans who want online PS2 play (Xbox already had online play in 2003's DDR Ultramix) and a new song roster. The gameplay is still addictive and fun, but more notable additions need to be made to keep the series fresh.
  5. As with most of these dancing games you either “get” it or you don’t. For those that do, you won’t find a more comprehensive or fun dancing game out there.
  6. DDR Extreme 2 makes some great strides to attract new players to the same old franchise.
  7. While there is not much new to offer to the genre, it is something to pick up if you enjoy the rest of the series.

Quite arguably one of the best Dance Dance titles to be released on the PS2.

Unlocking songs gets a bit tedious after a while. [Oct 2005, p.67]

Online play is something that PlayStation 2 owners have been requesting ever since it debuted on the Xbox and it has finally arrived. Offering both head-to-head play as well as a ranking mode, it's a nice way to find an opponent in the wee hours of the night.
  11. The hardcore may gravitate toward more advanced games like "In the Groove," but this is an excellent dance title for the rest of us. [Nov 2005, p.94]

It's not as varied as, say, "Pump it Up's" soundtrack, but this is nonetheless the franchise that owns the floor. [Nov 2005, p.88]
  13. Unlike "Pump It Up," the game is very accessible to beginners, teaching you the basics and then slowly ramping up in difficulty.
  14. New songs, new dancers, new videos- basically more of what makes us treat each new DDR game like a badly needed heroin fix.
  15. I am not going to say they have done anything revolutionary with this title, but Konami still has the formula right for dance games, others have tried but I still think the DDR series is the best out there.
  16. Quite possibly the best US release DDR has ever seen. Yes, seriously. The addition of online play and Dance Master mode do more to invigorate the series than you'd think, and flailing around like a dumbass is still damn fun.
  17. Although the actual gameplay doesn’t vary all that much from previous installments, and it can take a while to unlock all the songs, Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2 delivers an incredibly entertaining party experience.
  18. If you're currently, or ever have been a fan of Konami’s Dance Dance line of games, DDR Extreme 2 is a must have title that will keep you dancing for many nights to come.

The old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” fits this game well.
  20. Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2 doesn’t do anything new or “revolutionary”. It’s still a solid game that diehards of the series will eat up, but for those looking for some added spice will be left wanting until Konami ships out the next one.

Significant improvement over DDRX, but the arcane unlocking system and subpar workout mode keeps it from being great.
