Take everything you could possibly desire from a manic downhill assault and amplify it by 10. [Aug 2003, p.76]
-
91The technical courses can get devilishly demanding. [Sept 2003, p.53]
-
90This game looks fantastic, sounds awesome, has tight controls and even tighter gameplay, and accurately blends racing, stunts, and "Road Rash." Play it. [Aug 2003, p.22]
-
90Remarkably satisfied with this title.
-
Its steep and its fast. It not only looks great but it will make your stomach feel like youre on a elevator. The graphics are realistic, and the perspectives are virtually perfect enough to consider this game a sim.
-
DD's biggest failing is the audio. There are four different types of musical sets you can listen to while racing. Theyre all lame and performed by bands that are not known very well.
-
The stunts are a little lackluster, but the downhill racing delivers plenty of high-speed thrills.
-
86An excellent downhill bike racing game that gives you an amazing sense of speed, anxiousness, great control over your character and changing weather as you go from the top of the mountain to the bottom.
-
86A cross between "Motocross Madness" and the "SSX" series... if youve ever dreamed of doing 50 miles an hour down a shingle track or jumping an impossible 250-foot chasm on a push-bike, then this is for you.
-
85Graphically it is strong, and the audio tracks are superb.
-
This game isn't just a racing game, it isn't just a trick-based game, and it isn't just both, but it's an entirely new and interesting experience.
-
84But if you dont mind your BMX mixed with a whole heap of fun (why wouldnt you?) then youll love the games unique concept, giant courses and impressive graphics.
-
This game does the quivalent of grabbing you by the groin and tossing you off a cliff. [Aug 2003, p.87]
-
An unbelievably fast-paced, fun, and multi-player friendly mountain biking simulation that won't soon be usurped in the extreme sports genre.
-
83A fast and fun game that does everything that hasn't been done before. The game is totally fresh and unique.
-
83You should buy it because of the ridiculous courses, because of the energy level, because its a racing game that really does overwhelm you and in a lot of ways challenges you to be smart and play with your head to a much greater extent than SSX.
-
Aside from slight issues with the physics and camera, Downhill Domination does more things right than wrong with its wealth of gameplay modes and bike customization.
-
With up to four players racing together, Downhill Domination offers plenty of adrenalin- pumping action and if you are looking for a different and rewarding racer then this is one mountain worth climbing.
-
80A good game, but it's a downhill mountain biking game that, while technically solid, and in many ways fun, isn't terribly inspirational, innovative or original.
-
A steep learning curve, specific source material and an overall feel that doesn't exactly scream mass market means the game probably won't have the universal appeal that Incogs previous efforts had, but given enough time, it's more than easy enough to warm to the games plusses.
-
80If it weren't for its middling trick system, Downhill Domination would be among the finest action-sports games on the market.
-
Ultimately, it is a pretty straightforward extreme sports racing game, but it achieves its modest goals so admirably that it's definitely worth your time.
-
80Less enjoyable is the amazingly blatant product placementbike brands like Trek and Specialized make sense, but while you pedal, billboards for online auction sites and energy bars peddle under the guise of earnable sponsorships. Gamers will tire of it quickly.
-
80Twenty-four long trails and endless noodly bike upgrades add variety.
-
80Mixing mountain biking with Road Rash-style violence and Tony Hawk's token trick allotment, it transcends conceptual shortcomings, officially clocking in as one of the season's best titles.
-
80Gamers looking for a vast, expansive trick system like the one in the "Tony Hawk" games might find their wings clipped in Downhill Domination, but the responsive physics and no-rules mayhem work surprisingly well. It's fast -- perhaps a little too fast.
-
Domination suddenly becomes quite spectacularly addictive. It's not doing anything special, but it releases just the right amount of adrenaline to get you truly hooked. [Aug 2003, p.97]
-
What an awesome surprise - DD wasn't even on my radar, but it deftly mixes "Road Rash's" two-wheeled combat with "SSX's" long and crazy downhill drops to create one hell of a rush. [Aug 2003, p.121]
-
75Feels like pretty standard fare for the extreme sports genre, although it moves at an unusually high speed.
-
It's a good thing the game is all about speed, because the framerate is rock steady. The various mountains are bursting with creativity. Rider animations are oddly cartoony and occasionally you'll get snagged on an object, but for the most part the physics make sense and the game looks good.
